hmm will the human race finally work together (instead of thinking of themselfs) , if the yellowstone supervolcano erupts?
its will have global effects and scientists say that it usually erupt every 640k years, last erruption is 700k years ago.
so now consider to change your opinion about different things because there are a couple scenarios of disasters which have global effects, if they occur.

so the human race should finally learn to work as a unit >.>

I'm a little curious if the Development team is still actually working on FFXI, or if this has frozen everything, not just the play servers.

I'm pretty sure most of them are still working.
I dont know where they work on updates and stuff, but i know without electricity they cant do much. So i assume working has stoped atm

Honestly i can't believe everyone is so worried about playing a game when thousands of people are dead homeless hungry cold (yeah it's cold there too)most haven't even had fresh water since the original earthquake forget about the rest. I really doubt getting SE up and running is on a top priority in japan atm i really doubt anyone working in the SE facility is worried about moving servers so some whiny kids that dont know what else to do with there time can be happy. More than likely the employees or scrambling to get the hell out before they end up in a nuclear blast or maybe trying to find family in a not so far off town that was Destroyed by water fire or earthquakes. I miss playing as much as the next guy but wtf really....

saw someone else say it once before, but people are dead/dying/starving/homeless/and any other horrible thing you can think of that may have just happened to japan recently(maybe aside from the earthquake/tsunami) so i dont understand why everyone is getting so worked up over this = / its a natural disaster get over it people.

I agree with Tortuga and anyone else that has said something along those lines. I have friends that were affected by the quake, and am severely thankful that they are ok. However there is so many ppl that didnt make it through. I for one am going to take the money that I'm not getting charged by SE and donating it to help Japan. Seems like the right thing to do considering the circumstances.

Where were all the people that are standing up right now calling people out over this Japan natural disaster when Haiti's quake came through? What about when Katrina came through and ripped New Orleans a new one? You can call people out and say we're emotionless and/or heartless but you don't know how we deal with this, for all you know everyone on this forums has donated atleast 20 $ of their currency towards the Red Cross benefit to relief in Japan. Have it be, I myself have not given money as atm I don't have it to give I feel terrible for the lives reported lost and the constant disasters I read and watch on TV and news sites on a day-to-day basis now. My point is, as most of this has been pretty run-off people deal with issues in their own way, It's not your place to tell us how/what our reactions should be.

NIN edit: I was aiming my comment at Frotaut's response not the quoter's.

I was quite apathetic to the whole situation until I saw the screenshot of the /smes on Sunday (tried to log in and everything was dead). Made me go and see how bad the situation in Japan was and it's actually appalling. I'm certainly more appreciative of the fact I live in a country that doesn't suffer natural disasters (aside from a bit of rain) and that we're pretty detached as a nation towards such things.

Watching reports live on the TV at the moment, and they've been told that there might be another small quake tomorrow. The damaged nuclear reactors are still not totally stable, and people around Fukushima have been told to stay indoors to avoid airborne radiation. The ones they've had to flood with seawater apparently can't ever be used again to generate power safely, so that action was taken just to stop them melting down. The scenes in some of the towns close to the epicentre have been described by some reporters as looking like "the aftermath of a nuclear bomb".

Back on topic...

If I'm really honest, I'd say that a week off will do me and a few others I know some good. We were getting burned out farming KIs for our Empyrian weapons and I know I in particular was getting short-tempered and very tired because of it.

My partner and I were discussing the other day that we think the servers will be down until at least the end of March. There's interest at the moment because a lot of people expect (or hope) that everything will be back on Sunday, but that is very optimistic thinking. After a week, if SE announce it'll be down longer, you'll find that people lose interest and start to leave for other games - WoW, LotR etc. - and probably won't come back. Guessing this will hit FFXIV hardest as they were struggling to keep players, but it will also affect FFXI players (for better or worse).

I definately will be back, but will admit I am missing it. All we can do is hope and keep the Japanese people in our thoughs, while they deal with the terrible conditions over there.

Excellent point. Sadly, you are going to have many many sides to a circumstance, and not all of them will be the sane/rational side. Sometimes people just need to take a step back and look at things from a different angle to help put things into perspective. Granted you'll always have those idiots that wont pull their head out of their rear long enough to realize their wrong/misinformed..... but eh. I probably of should of said this before just so I didnt seem like a bigoted idiot, but then everyone makes errors.

I havent donated yet my self, but will once the paycheck clears and I find the proper charity.

(An aside, anyone have a link??? I'd give to the Red Cross, but I think a Japanese charity would be a better bet tbh.)

I dunno about much bout whats going on cuz i personally dont care to watch tv or read newsapers or news in general. However, with FFXi down which can/seems to be a majority of everyone who plays life, i think its good. thats means people can stop living in there fantasy world and get there *** back to reality XD. That being said, its your choice to make FFXI your life, but do you realy want that to be your life lol? It's as pathetic as a dead worm trying to play Dance dance revolution on a system thats not plugged in with no game disc.

Was talking more about the "casual" players losing interest and upping sticks. Some of those I know play WoW on and off, and I'm predicting they'll just go over there and stay.

I've invested six years or so in Aequis and not about to give up on her. Plenty of stuff to do away from my PC and other games to play, but I am missing linkshell friends and our adventures in Abyssea...

i play the game alot like most people but come on stop being so worried about the game... guess what 1 week 2 weeks 3 weeks when ever its back up you will be back to doing what you was doing.

Well said, and it just goes to prove that most of humanity follows the "self-preservation" instinct. Which happens to be FFXI in this scenario.

moving the server takes some transport capacities and i bet , like with energy, they use them where they are needed.

edit: beside the above fact, this will be a outsourcing orgy: server, employees to keep them running.
this will cost money and it could be a higher financial dmg as a shutdown of servers for a couple months

In all honesty, doesn't really matter if they do. It'll come to show how many people care more about the game then RL.

Plz correct if I'm reading this wrong. Are you saying that every1 that will be playing, when the servers come back up, are obviously ppl that don't care about RL?That is a big statement. What about all the ppl that play after work/school or during their free time like ppl playing Call of duty?If ppl want to play, no matter how many hours/day, It's their choice, no need to judge them.Who you are to judge anyway, you play the same game <.<

It's kinda obvious though, when ppl are getting mad over the game being down. Don't they have other things to do to not get mad? It's a game, nothing more.

Yeah I play, but I also have work/school/friends/and everything else in between. I can really care less that FFXI is down for who knows when. Because I have other better important things to do. FFXI is just my getaway. But I've got plenty of other things to do.
wow long time response. It's good for you, but you need to understand that not everyone have the same opinion as you and it doesnt mean they dont care about RL.We all need to work/eat/pee/shower/socialyze at some point.I just found you sentences very agressive and mean in general.

Sorry you did. Wasn't meaning to upset anyone. Everyone has there opinion. Mine's a lot better then what some of the others are saying.

Think what you want to think ^^

After watching that last night made me think twice that it's really serious over there. Glad the game IS down, everyone needs to be helping everyone over there.

It's a game, it'll be back ^^ No one needs to worry. May take some time, but it'll be back.
