Let's all think about this SE not billing us. I'm pretty sure they want our money so they'll come up with a solution so chill. It's a nature disater. We should be more worried about there nuclear powerplants then this game ATM.
Why? Those power plants don't effect me at all.

I'm not even whining about not being able to play a game I haven't played in 3 months. I just find this statement a bit silly.

the fallout of 3 nuclear powerplants eventually?
Doubt it.

anyone had the idea to spend the money for the free month or 2 to a help organisation yet?
this would be a good use for the money.
Why not just use that money to help the millions of problems happening in America/there own community -___-

and what problem do we have in "our" country that can compare? During 911, the Japanese offered there military to us, your saying they should have just said screw em?. thats a hella selfish comment.

Heavens no, Japan is the only place in the world right now that needs money. It's where anime comes from so it must be the most important.
lol people are forgetting that there are way more problems in our home nation to actually care about something that happened miles away.....not saying that I help out organizations in our home nation but if I'm throw some money away I'm going to at least throw it where I can see it.

I wanted to just clarify something... they are looking at a partial meltdown, and for the record. they dont "explode" the reactor rods stay at a certain temp. and they pump cool water in while pumping hot water out. the problem isnt the earthquake, its the Tsunami which dmg the power to the pumps so the hot water is evaporating and no cool water coming in so they're getting hotter. if they get to hot and melt the containment unit around the reactor the radiation gets out. People thinking it blows up like a A-bomb or something is just nuts.

They pump in cool water and steam comes out, not hot water. Water has a hard time existing at double its boiling point. That steam is then converted back into water to continue the cycle.

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/world/2011/03/14/dnt.japan.reactor.explainer.nhk?hpt=C2See%20More

That explains it a little better, plus adds in what happened at the plant.

Got tired of reading on page two, so sorry if it's already been said, but. Yeah, the servers being down for a month would not be good for the company. Is there much the company can do about it? Probably not. I doubt they will be granted permission to turn the servers back on because people can't stand to go a week or more without playing.

At this point, the only thing I can think of that would get the servers up sooner is moving them to the US. Which is likely a crap ton more complicated than is sounds.

Don't get me wrong, I do wish they could be back up within a week as SE hastily mentioned they would. But at this point, it doesn't look like it.

I don't think anyone is really saying "don't donate to Japan relief". It is a worthy cause, but it is really silly everyone should pour their heart out over this (Which is funny, because the extent of this seems to be changing your Facebook status)

I can't think of any disaster in recent memory that has had such a huge "following" like this. And really, the only reason I can think of is because people think Japan is cool.

That's what's bumming me out so much.

Wait, dont that stuff happen in like every country. the fact of the matter is, we arnt talking about isolated local issues. we are talking about a total disaster. And I mean if your going to completly be like "Help us only" on this, why pay for anything not made in the US then. not saying you HAVE to do anything, but what I am saying is it wouldnt hurt to help.

A majority of people here have those problems because it's because of our own kind doing this ***to each other. Or it's their own fault (Gambling money away, crime, drug addiction. etc). All of this is man made and we're supposed to spend money on their mistakes? When nature happens it's much different. It's more important to help people who could starve or die of thirst. If a homeless person is thirsty there is always a source of fresh water nearby.

Japan's problem is a natural disaster. Thousands of people died in a day as opposed to the ***that went down over the course of months/years. The death toll will probably increase, so sorry people give a ***.

We seem to be skirting around the issue of addiction, as addicts tend to do.

I, like many people here if we're honest, play the game quite compulsively. "My name's Aure, and I'm an ffxiaholic..."

A month of enforced cold turkey may be enough to break many people of the habit (unless they're Charlie Sheen, then nothing's going to work). This will significantly harm the player base.

Clearly, restoring a video game is not and should not be the priority of the Japanese government. But SE is a business and will almost certainly react as one. Any decent sized business worth it's salt will have a disaster recovery plan in place. We all know that the customer base isn't growing, so they can't afford for it to shrink; they need to get back up and running as fast as possible.

This means that if they're not thinking of finding servers elsewhere, their investors won't be happy. At least a temporary solution to restore limited service is crucial financially.

So yeah, let's move it all to California, where it'll be perfectly safe from earthquakes. No, wait, what?

In any case, move it somewhere, USA, South Korea, whatever. It's not like they're moving manufacturing machinery, it's just data. geography is irrelevant.

Bring on the cloud...

This logic is fail.

Imagine all of what happened in Japan happened to you for one god damn minute. It starts with an, Earthquake, then the Tsunami, then the reactors having problems. Then you find out a volcano starts spewing ash and lava.

At the moment you feel like it's the god damn end of the world as you know it. Gas is rationed to only 11 ounces per person. Food and Water are getting scarce. Whole coastal cities have sunk under water because the ground itself has sunk. While other cities have been washed away including schools full of children. Population 72,000 and suddenly the town is in ruins and empty, no survivors anywhere.
All of the water is full of debris, ***, oil, whatever the *** is in that black sludgy mess. Any water we have here even in a wishing fountain suddenly would quench your thirst.

To sum things up. STFU

I think what happened in Japan is horrible and we should help with what we can but we also need to take care of our own people and take care of the problems we have in the U.S before we start taking care of the world. The U.S is running out of money as it is from the war over seas and the they are suppose to be cutting all military pay for the next month to try and get back on track. Like I said I'm all for helping other people but when it gets to the point where we are suffering I think we should step back and take care of our people.

Biggz is making a very good point, there clearly is a significant issue in America- the plague of ignorance and lack of compassion and understanding in its youth. I think that is rather apparent and well demonstrated by Biggz himself. Clearly living in a "bad" neighborhood and having a strong understanding of "street" life he finds it best to berate people trying to address a pressing world issue then to get off his computer and help the people he deems needy in his own neighborhood.

Attitudes like this are a much more pressing issue for our future then any amount of homelessness and poverty- people nowadays expect to get everything without doing anything themselves... That attitude only perpetuates the cycle of hopelessness and failure.

Any amount of positivity and helping others is good for the greater good whether it be in your back yard or on the other side of the world. Spending energy to attack people who want to or feel the need to help others is a complete waste and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

STFU

Go somewhere else? Ive might not have seen Natural Disasters but I have seen disasters to go ahead and say noone really cares if its not happening to them best they would do is say "My prayers are w/ them" knowing damn well you praying atm isn't gonna do ***
