Between FFXI and FFXIV there's probably close to 500,000+ people paying an average of $15 per month. That's close to 8 million per month they'd be losing if they chose to not charge us, which they,so far, have done.

There was never a monthly charge for FFXIV. There are around 200kish users paying for XI so that's around 2~3m they losing out on.

As I said, it's out of their hands, they don't really have a choice in the matter. As a lot of people say, RL > IG. That works from SE's side too.
And if the playerbase fades, I don't know. Most people are understanding of what is going on, we might lose some idiots, but when the servers are back up, I know I will be.
they could easily throw on their own generator (big one mind you) to power the servers, so they technically do have a choice in the matter.
As for the power conditions from the grid in Japan, nope.

Well yeah XIV didnt charge b/c it wasnt finished. but it was intended to be a payed for game, which when they finish it, i'm sure they'll start charging. I'm sure 2-3m per month would still be enough to make a company want to do what's needed to get cash flow coming back in. I cant see a company that makes profit off of selling you a virtual service, deciding it's best to sit back and have it's employees not do anything for 2 months or more... got to remember that there's a GM office in california that arent working now b/c of this. It would make a LOT of sense to spend a couple hundred thousand dollars to get the 2-3m flow going again.
