RDM is a da shiznit!
At level 75, my BLM has fun attempting to solo puddings.
Occasionaly, the stars align and I'll kill a VT for 300exp.
Basically I just nuke, grav, run, nuke, bind, run, nuke- death.
If it resists, I zone.
Now, I decided to try my hand at DoT/nuke as 72RDM on an IT mob.
After everything I read, I should be able to do this, it will just take 10 minutes.
Not only did I not get resisted, but the DoTs killed faster than I expected.
I was able to DoT and kill an IT for 386exp- without much thought.
I'm convinced. RDM is da shiznit!

until you apply it to endgame activities and you get pt members demanding buffs or debuffs and have nothing better to do than call you out if you are too slow. then you learn to hate it. trust me.
or you get mad resists on higher level mobs and realize rdm is more about gear than it is actual skill
RDM is partly gear, partly skill.
I leveled BLM, WHM and a THF.
This way, I know how much damage I can take, how much I can nuke, and how to think like a melee when needed.
It also allowed me to cap all available skills prior to leveling RDM (including parry, evasion, ele magic, healing magic and merit fully enfeebling).
Doing all of this fully prepared me on how to solo as RDM.
People that level RDM first can understand the full array of possibilities it provides without leveling the applicable jobs it deals with (healing, nuking, minor melee).
Overall, the most balanced, yet it enfeebles the mob enough to bring the mob down to equality.
It's great!

one of my friends is a top rdm with all the top gear you can possibly get and always told me its just the gear that allows him to stick enfeebles so well. it's a no-brainer job. but if you like it, by all means go ahead. i have it too and it just doesn't fit my playstyle is all.

I'm having a hard time finding a nyzul static to help me climb. How many WS points do you need at floor 15? Something like 16,000? lol
