This time it's about the entire Final Fantasy series.

I absolutely filled in the 'other' blank with : a ffxi expansion announcement when asked about what i wanted to see from communications from them and shamelessly plugged a desire to see FFXI's budget increase in the summary question. Please feel free to do similar.

I really don't understand why~ they can't make truly new content. The reasoning always seemed like bologna to me. Why can't PS2 be supported on the back end or emulated... It's not like they were ever writing in whatever dark age code it is on literal PS2's anyways... IMO the intention was to kill off FFXI as they have tried numerous times before.
I feel like if they remade FFXI it would be a disappointment. I don't think SE considers it a feasible investment either. FFXI doesn't appeal to the broader audience of the genre. Even though everyone is complaining about MMOs these days I don't think the audience is going to embrace stone age grinding... Let's say it does happen, a lot of the FFXI old timers will undoubtably turn linkshell Ni and haze the hell out of the new generation of players.

Let's be realistic for a moment XI isn't going to suddenly get a brand new expansion at any point as it just doesn't have the sub numbers anymore. If the XI raid in XIV didn't bring an influx of new players there isnt really much that will. The ones that are around now are starting to slow disappear due to lack of content to do.
Its not all doom and gloom however as SE have already said they are keeping the game up and running for a while. The maintenance mode announcements weren't really SEs way of killing off the game they were simply stating that the dev team were being cut back and content would be at a slow pace. Pretty sure we got Dyna D after the first maintenance mode announcement and we also got TVR and Odyssey. We are also getting a new HTBF next month so they are making some new content to do.

0 chance of a full disk expansion.
I see these surveys as them being so out of touch with their projection goals for revenue that they realize they need to make changes. But because they are part of a corporation, some idiot at a meeting that needs to prove they are worth their salary says, "We don't even need to spend money on doing research to right our course, we'll just put out surveys to do our homework for us. Smarter not harder" And instead of firing that piece of ***and getting people with actual talent, hard work ethic, and ideas, we get a survey.
So i naturally throw sand in the gears as quick as I can because if you're going to ask me what I want, you're getting my answer. If FF14~16 vanished from the face of the earth in plume of smoke, I would lose 0 fond memories. But if I can pepper their fill in the blank responses with interest in a 20 year old MMO, maybe they'll get the hint that they've been making crap for awhile.
I'm honestly pretty excited of this years possible content for FFXI.

Thank you for survey, commented for the opportunity to free our (violating) friends from violation by having a coliseum fight… lmao…

Who is is irrelevant in my opinion, but I’ve witnessed as little as one get a warning, 5-6-8-10 leave the game. On Phoenix we add entire LS getting a warning, they can pay and log, they just don’t want as they don’t want the sword hanging over their heads. They still play together, i see them in discord, just not XI. The relevancy here is XI is bleeding players left and right, population has been divided by 2 or 3 on every server over the last two years, money has drought out and so “honest” players are also suffering by having no new content for the future. And now they also leaving as well. Time to do something wildly different to pop some life back (don’t forget thf cannot pickpocket you in the game, events are instances you will be fine). For example instead of a 3 day ban that lead to pure ban (players don’t change how they play overnight, but they will for inconveniences), do a 1day ban with character in jail for a day and another player to pay a million, 2nd offense 2/2, 3rd 4/4, 4th 8/8 expanding exponentially. The jail should be visitable as well for wall of shame and selfie. Doing a coliseum fight could be an alternative where your friends have to earn your release, maybe every 2 steps or so… but yeah something got to change, dads and moms ain’t coming back with that swords on their heads.

We're more likely to see a full expansion than we are SE revise their banning procedures/policies. I hate it, but they've been kindof inconsistent and short with bans since the start, that's not gonna change.
It's gotten worse for minor offenses since direct w/ GM interactions and being sent to Mordion Gaol went away, but for most people being banned for using <insert tool here>...they see that as an egregious violation of the rules and they've never been tolerant of that.

I know this is a bit off topic, but one thing SE should consider is maybe not spending half the world's GDP on every single mainline entry. I wouldn't care if the Ifrit of FFXVII is only a little different from FFXVI's, as long as the story and gameplay are good. They insist on make all new assets for every single mainline entry though, it will run the series down.
But yeah, I asked for a new mini expansion like RoV or tVR anyway. There's a possibility that, they would give us this much, even if they don't want to double down on their banning policies, etc.

I gave them the kind of disgruntled/nostalgic feedback that they expect from my demographic. Mission accomplished.
I think the increased budget requirements and subsequent financialization of the game industry has basically killed SE's chance of delivering interesting Final Fantasy games. When they had the budget of an indie game studio, they made games I was interested in playing. Now the indie studios are still the ones that make games I'm interested in and SE make overproduced, rout, beautiful games like FFXV.
Case in point, they are surveying their playerbase in an attempt to monitor "Final Fantasy" brand awareness/sentiment/NPS probably at least partially so they can predict what kind of boost a game will get if it's "Final Fantasy: A New Game" instead of "A New Game".

I assume you liked the first one and you would recommend it? I have a backlog for the first time in a long time, but I'm ok with adding to a large pile because it motivates me to get moving on it sooner.

The cinematics and story for FF9 always stand out in my mind as the time I got enough of a game that it wasn't an interactive movie, but it was still too pretty to believe I was getting it. The game itself wasn't perfect, but I so fondly remember Vivi sending that Black Waltz straight to hell and watching Alexander knock Bahamaut out of the sky. And...I'm going to go watch them right now.
Edit: They still look decent even at 4:3 ratio. Ultra Realism really has destroyed a lot of the charm of FF games.

Completely agree. I've echod similar opinions every time I see someone request new expansions, jobs, fullscaled content or a remake.
I wouldn't mind seeing a console port again for selfish reasons but It won't happen. We have to accept it. We as a community needs to get off the cope lol

Ok well don't play any Rhapsodies or TVR content because it's all cope.
By Dodik 2024-12-27 15:43:59
TVR was someone's at the story/art team's attempt at finishing up the XI story.
There are a lot that care about the story, more on SE's side I would wager though than the player's.
I wouldn't mind another set of quests like the Beastmen quest line in Aht Urhgan. No rewards, just an interesting story line.
Just don't make players run around around half the world aimlessly behind locked doors that need hours to go through, that's just mean and makes the story less likely to be experienced.
Isn't that the the point of a story, to be experienced?

I was skeptical when the first trailer dropped, but the second trailer hooked me and the actual game totally delivered.

I love it, personally. Definitely one of my top favorite FF in the whole series. The job system strongly reminds me of FF5/FF11's system, which happened to be 2 of my favorite mainline FF.
That being said, I don't recommend to people who:
1) plays FF for story, the writing is kinda cringe.
2) plays FF for big budget presentation. The budget is reallllly low. Which leads to boring environment and repetitive mobs.
3) plays FF for old school Sakaguchi style and feel(like FF6 or FF9 etc), the whole presentation style is full Nomura style teenager emo cringe that some people may hate.
I do recommend it if you:
1) enjoys grinding and leveling TONS of jobs, grind tons of gears, min maxing with jobs/skills/gears choices, unlocking many exciting new combinations and become extremely OP in endgame.
Personally, this is probably one game that's closest to offline FF11 that I can think of. It even has a soulflayer advance job for blue mage, and FF11 zone/mob/music. Which is pure nostalgia.

It appears that FFXI is the sole installment in the series from numbers 1 to 14 (Probably FFXIII) that has not received a remake/remaster; therefore, I would advocate for the creation of an offline version. It would be beneficial for the gameplay to resemble that of FFXII.
There seems to be a lack of interest among players in returning to support the development financially. Most only return during free login events to explore new content, which is often intriguing, yet they quickly lose interest and move on.
FFXIV is the current one, while FFXI is not.

Agreed with all of your SoP praise, and explaining it the way you did as more of a game that appeals to players who prioritize systems and mechanics over story/presentation is right on.
Not sure I'd say it's THE closest to offline FFXI, but definitely has a spot on that list. My list also includes:
Xenoblade Chronicles 1 - my #1 offline FFXI style game. Full of obvious inspiration, which you feel from the very start when wandering out and finding your first "NM" crawler that looks like a FFXI crawler in a Crawler's Nest like area. Characters feel like FFXI archetypes (Shulk's positional attacks are pure FFXI THF, Dunban as evasion tank, Melia having some SMN in her kit, etc.), selecting abilities feels like manipulating the FFXI macro bar, checking enemies and enemy levels feels the same (and level differences are similarly impactful), even has a FFXI-like auto-run. Tons of visual/environment inspirations too, there are straight up FFXI-inspired zones (Al'Taieu = the Entia's home area, the Nopon challenge area IS Riverne/Monarch Linn entrance, the aforementioned CN-inspired area, etc.), enemy models like crabs are total FFXI, etc. Biggest difference is 3 person party instead of 6, but man, the vibes are FFXI through and through.
White Knight Chronicles - another one that is SO heavily FFXI inspired as to be pure offline comfort food for FFXI fans.
Bravely Default - the job/subjob system is nothing if not FFXI. I was hooked from the moment I got the NIN job and Utsusemi.
Final Fantasy XII - for obvious reasons
This time it's about the entire Final Fantasy series.
