some accounts crash in multibox setup
By sedosan 2023-04-13 15:44:50
I just started using multiboxing for the first time yesterday and I got me 5 new accounts. Using a lot of veteran players tips I got started just fine.
Now that I started playing. Some of my 5 accounts crash as soon as a battle ends. The weird thing is that it's not always the same account. In one instance account number 5 is the only one crashing. In another instance it's accounts 2, 3 and 5. I can't recall the other instances.
All accounts are running exactly the same plugins so if one crashes all should crash! but that's not the case.
I suspected it might be a job issue with maybe some gearswap problems, I unloaded gearswap completely but I still face the same issue. I disabled all plugins/addons that have to do with specific jobs but I still crash.
I have a 2 monitor setup (extended) and I run the main account on monitor 1, and 5 accounts on monitor 2 (4k 85" TV) using WinControl to give each char a segment of the tv (divided in 6 portions) using "position_manager" addon to recognize the position of each multibox account.

Ok, I might have spoken too soon.
I noticed "Distance Plus" set parameters based on job.
also noticed "Battlemod" setps parameters based on job.
I unloaded both and no more crashes.
I'll deal with those later!

Are you running the Sandbox plug-in? Chat logs all store data in the same folder in the PlayOnline directory, and sometimes that causes issues when multiple accounts try to access the same resource files concurrently, which causes them to crash.
This is extremely noticeable looking at various characters' chat logs, and seeing chat events from other sessions.
The Sandbox plug-in (not add-on) will force the game to write those files to separate folders for each character, preventing cross talk crashes.

Thanks for your reply, I just checked my settings and Sandbox plugin is already activated and running. Am I missing something?

Have you been able to resolve the issue? I had the same thing going on on my computer. Last thing i tried blowing dust off, load packetflow and jazero. Not sure wich one of this helped, only had 1 crash for the last 24 hours

Are you using any old graphics mods?

Is it an immediate crash or like, after several hours?

dgvoodoo is perfectly stable with the ffxi client itself and ashita, i regularly have 12 chars logged in on the same pc from one maintenance ending until the next begins (and many other pcs with up to 8 each)
i don't remember the last time i saw a 'crash', though i do get disconnected at times when i'm pretty sure my internet hasn't failed on occasion
obviously if you're having frequent crashes the ideal solution is to get a crash dump so someone can objectively see the cause, though i'd still be inclined to blame windower before anything else

I have seen similar - random single game crashes, I had assumed it was related to me updating to Windows 11 24H2, but it was also after the latest FFXI update as well.
DGvoodoo 2.82.1.
Never had it happen when I was actively doing things, literally just afk bazaaring, but I am sure it will occur sometime.
No addons that are new, just the same stuff as always.

I get the occasional 4001 when zoning, but never any crashes or disconnects while staying in a zone.

though i do get disconnected at times when i'm pretty sure my internet hasn't failed on occasion I find the connection to XI's servers is very finicky. I'll have a brief r0 from a net spike, the game will recover, and then 30 seconds later I just get booted via connection lost.

Just in case people stumble upon this in the future, my issue was resolved.
First, after identifying a crash in the event log of:
Faulting module name: nvwgf2um.dll, version: 32.0.15.6094, time stamp: 0x66bc37c5
Exception code: 0xc0000005
I updated NVidia drivers from August 2024 to October 2024. This resolved the issue where the game window would silently crash a character even if just afk overnight. Once updated, things have been solid (knock on wood). Guess that shows me for updating to 24H2 without matching GPU driver updates.

I know it sounds counterintuitive to say this. Once I find a driver version that is stable with FFXI, I never update the driver after that. However if you like to play modern games, this can be a problem, lol
