Corona Virus, How has it affected your area so far?
Wow, this got up to 103 pages already. With this many *** scientists playing this ancient game coming together, you'd think you'd have the cure for aging by now.
It's high time people move to a tropical poor country. They have no hygiene. Would get your immune system up and running on overdrive mode.
Trust me on this. I got like 5 kids and 2 adults with proven results. One of the kid had allergies to everything. Even the waiter at a certain the restaurant would say the only dish on the menu for the kid would be "water" and "no egg noodles" after 2 weeks of listlessness, the guy was eating his egg noodles next to a sewer (probably ate a couple flies) in happiness. All of his allergies seem to be gone (other than peanuts). Of course, them tropical country will probably put you into a very small room for at least 2 weeks before they would let you do anything if you go there now. Today the US passed over 70,000 deaths, 71,000 actually. There have been a lot of models coming out this week forecasting the upcoming death toll, and certain entities are trying to attack those models, but the fact is we don't need them. Presidential Predictions are also just as irrelevant, we have the data. During the worst of it (so far), the country was averaging about 30k new cases and 2k deaths per day. Currently, the country is averaging about 25k new cases and 1,500 deaths per day. At that rate we will be at 80k deaths by the end of next week, and over 90k by Memorial Day, which apparently has become the new (fake) target date for this thing to wind down. Things were getting ever so slightly better, but certainly no where near good enough to start reopening the economy. And its certainly not going to be behind us by the end of May, considering it is still spreading like wildfire and there is no cure.

Ironically parents who are clean freaks do more damage to their children's long-term health than parents who are more laid back with it. I'm not talking about filthy obviously, there is a line.
The bodies immune system does work, it can kill bacteria and viruses on its own to a point. It does need to be constantly working though and it does need the proper vitamins, if it's rarely getting used then it becomes less active. When you do get an infection then you're SoL. The body constantly puts resources where they are needed, things that are not used atrophy. Immune system is no different. Viciouss said: » Today the US passed over 70,000 deaths, 71,000 actually. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who picks a wing, be it left or right, is part of the issue. We need a balanced solution. Leaning to one side means you fall off the tightrope. A fast food chain running out of beef is hardly indicative of a Nationwide shortage. No one should care if McDonalds runs out of Big Macs.
Steps are already being taken to stretch out the supply in the near term. Actual grocery stores are limiting the amount of meat per customer, and again, the USA has a large surplus of meat in cold storage. We don't have a food problem quite yet. Food (production) is literally a non-issue. Merely inconvenient that you may not be able to have 10lbs of bacon just because you want it.
Worst case scenario; there are enough people who have already recovered that they can be taught to run any food process. They're basically all non-skilled/no education jobs. You may lose out on the finer points; Butchers are skilled, but you can just ground beef the whole cow if you have to. People's lives or meat on your table... So hard to choose.
Everyone knows why the meat industry is hanging itself. Too concentrated. You get a dozen of factories doing the bulk of the work. A couple of them fail, The whole system struggles. It's a monopoly problem and the US would never fix it. I wouldn't worry too much. Americans are overweight. Unless you're vegan, you can probably ration your meals. It would normally cost a lot of money when people call it "diet plan" but now you can do it for free. What I am a lot more worried is the sprials of inflation come after this. In general, the strength of a currency and its value is depended upon the amount of goods and services the country produce. If a country produce nothing then the currency would worth nothing. If a country is producing less than the amount of money it prints into circulation then you have inflation. If a country is producing very little and prints a ton of money then the currency is headed to a lot of inflation. The US is producing very little with everyone is staying at home. It is also printing tons and tons of money. Soon it will have very very serious consequences to both public and private debt. Thankfully the US doesn't borrow foreign money or it would be very very bad. Bismarck.Laurelli said: » ... As far as I'm concerned, anyone who picks a wing, be it left or right, is part of the issue. We do NOT need a "balanced solution." Viruses are apolitical. They do not care who they infect. We need a scientific solution. And one American political party does not believe in science. Viciouss said: » A fast food chain running out of beef is hardly indicative of a Nationwide shortage. No one should care if McDonalds runs out of Big Macs.... As I pointed out, following the science was working, at a slow pace. But the death rate was falling. Isn't that the goal? To save as many Americans as possible. Now its save Americans but not at the cost of the election. We already closed down too late, now we are opening too early. Because of the election.

We wont have a food shortage for a long while. If anything we will just import more, because other countries have better, sustainable setups for something like this. You just wont be able to purchase as much meat for a while that you want. The solution is for companies like tyson to revamp their ***and implement safety measures... which they wont do, because thats not enough profit for them. And the workers arent going to return to the conditions they were forced into before, as thats just begging to kill people. Especially since trump waved their right to sue the companies if they get sick due to being forced to work in said conditions. While economics can be considered a science in some aspect (especially in modelling), a lot of their predictions tend either be wrong or so complicated that even the author have troubles trying to understand what his own math.
You can have a death rate model with biology but a recovery model will have to use economics and I am not sure people will understand economics. Garuda.Chanti said: » Bismarck.Laurelli said: » ... The severity of this catastrophe was increased by not just a lack of leadership, but also by willful blindness of facts, evidence, and science. If capable leadership had existed in the USA from the outset/onset, it could have been possible to create the tests, components, and PPE supplies needed to test the population and contact trace enough to safely reopen around this time. Unfortunately, safely reopening under these circumstances isn't the reality. Reopening based on a political belief that people should prop up the economy with their lives in unsafe conditions could lead to another spike in infection rates, which in turn leads to increased deaths, which can further harm the economy. The current crash course is misguided and cyclical. Balance sounds good in theory, until you realize one of the sides tasked with evening out the scales has become fixated on rejecting science and avoiding difficult truths. And, yes, people who can't work could starve under the current system, while farmers throw away excess food because the distribution networks are so flawed. No one with the power to do so in government seems to want to step in in a meaningful way to get wasted food into the hands of those who desperately need it. In theory, government is a construct created to protect and enhance the quality of life of its people, but in the US, that relationship has become paradoxical. Any system charged with protecting lives that cannot ensure the basic needs of the people are met, is a failed system. So many are in denial, thinking that we can live without meat and ignoring the fact that vegetables and milk are also being destroyed. 2 months ago, Nancy Pelosi was telling New Yorkers to go to Chinatown and enjoy themselves. Shortly after, Trump said this disease would go away like a miracle. 71k people died because of their stupidity. 2 more months of Americans arguing, you all will be living in The Purge. Figure your crap out. People on the left have to agree to let supply chains reopen. And people on the right have to agree to wear protective gear and concede that not all business should reopen. But no one will. You'll all just keep thinking your side is right until you end up in horror. Bismarck.Laurelli said: » You'll all just keep thinking your side is right until you end up in horror. New Zealand has had 0 cases for two days and only 2 today, both of which are not serious and are already part of a community cluster of infections.
The government is working with the opposition to put together an exit plan for early next week. It's been tough but we're almost out of lockdown. Hard yards still to come though. Supply chains dont all need to reopen. Again, thats not the issue. We have more than enough supply even with a large portion of our own supply chains closing down, and if needed we can have the government take over the facilities themselves, and implement safety measures and enforce them. They likely wont, but it is an option.
But theres likely no need for that. Again, we can import. Other countries arent setup so stupidly with their supply chains and are still producing in excess. We have enough food to feed everyone on the planet. We dont have a supply problem, we've only ever had a distribution problem. Even with shops closing up, we can still feed everyone. Its just getting it from A to B. Leviathan.Andret said: » In other news, China is laughing at US and claim they are gonna jack up the prices for ventilators. If GM could produce munitions and aircraft, Ford could make aircraft, and a host of other companies could produce arms and armaments that they weren't originally set up to create prior to WWII, I'm relatively certain the companies that exist now could manage some ventilators and completely shut China out. In fact its already happening. There are sports equipment companies making PPE shields with their same equipment as Field Hockey Masks and the like. There's also examples of doctors designing retrofits for CPAP machines to work as emergency ventilators. Asura.Biglovin said: » Wow, this got up to 103 pages already. But the chain is broken, so farmers can't sell the food. Thus, they are euthanizing animals and plowing vegetables back into the soil. Millions of eggs in Europe rotted in warehouses because the factories that made egg cartons were shut down. You seem to have 0 understanding of how things work. TOTALS IN UNITED STATES
Confirmed 1.23M Recovered 164K Deaths 72,024 30.5% Getting very close to that annual 80-90k benchmark for the annual flu everyone wanted to compare this to, and we aren't even half way through the year. Just wondering how many more months that number keeps averaging around 30% before people consider it to be as substantial as it is. |
