You can get these 5M with a mars orb as well. I got them on my second mars orb. Don't remember if it was a thud or something else.

I can verify this as well. I obtained tier 2 escha zitah gear with my thud of Venus. It was great...

And after waiting for hours got teleported to some farther part of the map with most of the doors closed so the way I initially tried to get to the mobs pouring in failed... by the time I went back around they had retreated without getting past the very initial moat so absolutely no credit <.<

Just to clear this up, it isn't guaranteed, it is just one of the possible drops. And I believe others have said that the gil doesn't go to the party leader, but the person who hits the gold box. I can't verify this as I've yet to see the 5m drop on Mars or Venus orbs w/ loud thuds.

If I can't get to the zone entrance I just try to find NPCs and buff them w/ protect/shell/haste. It isn't as satisfying as destroying mobs, but it should be enough to get credit for participation and that lovely silver voucher.

As others have said you get credit if you just pop temp items. You technically could create a lua to pop the temp items when get them and never actually have to be present for the fighting. I got credit on my first one without touching a monster, but I used temp items.

Nope. You can get the mimic on the first try and there is no thud. It's 100% luck.

Well I'd stop after 9 for sure and would argue stopping at regular thud works decently too
