P&R Election Day 2016 Special
Asura.Saevel said: » For the liberals wondering what just happened. http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-reasons-trumps-rise-that-no-one-talks-about/ I know it's cracked but the author really described the perspective of rural Americans and how urban liberal elitism doomed Clinton's campaign from the start. With every insult and backhanded comment about rural Americans they only pushed more people to support Trump. Every time a liberal elite patronizes "uneducated whites", expecting that those whites should be grateful the modern urbanites would even bothered to take notice, they added fuel to Trumps fire. Trump deliberately bated those liberals into publicly attacking and deriding him for saying things that rural Americans say. He used that publicity to demonstrate that he wasn't one of those stuck up urban elitist snobs, and it worked. Both the poor and middle class rural American really identified with Trump. A man who had the same flaws they themselves had and wasn't afraid of that. It is a good article but those people in rural America also voted in a guy who is not rural and has never been rural. Or as one commenter put it: Quote: I don't dispute any of this, other than possibly the title, but the question is: why are they attracted to Trump? He's virtually the archetype of 'City' - he looks weird, he's rich, he's decadent, he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. I know he says the right things: more coal mines, city people are awful, etc., but do they not consider the messenger? I'm not going to step into the lion's cage just because it tells me it's vegetarian. Trump is part of the elite and has always been so. He pulls in foreign workers to build his buildings, there is documented history of him not paying subcontractors, and he lies all.the.time. Bahamut.Kara said: » Johnson has pulled more votes than Nader did in 2000. I was really hoping a third party would pull 5% Well, that was a surprise. I'm pleased though, because Clinton was denied, finally. Now, just gotta hope that Trump does something good, really anything good. Phew.
On the brightest side, comedians and web comic people and entertainers of all varieties got an easy job for the next 4 years. I expect to see a lot of comedy making fun of Trump. She's now ahead in the popular vote, it might set in her favour.
Asura.Saevel said: » *Cough* *Cough* The silent majority has voted, something they rarely do. This is a giant "I told you" to everyone that claimed "never!"towards Trump being elected. Tbh I didn't expect Trump to actually win, I expected Clinton to win with a relatively small margin (which would've been enough of a shock to a lot of people). Maybe Trump himself didn't see that happening lol Valefor.Sehachan said: » She's now ahead in the popular vote, it might set in her favour. Drags out the bitching for longer, but I feel like we have had someone lose the election with the popular vote in their favor before.
Oh, right. Al Gore won the popular vote against Bush back in 2000.
I guess that answers my own question. Ragnarok.Zeig said: » I wouldn't call them the "majority" but it's a sizable portion that affects the elections, and their opinions are repressed because they're not PC, giving the illusion that they're a small minority. Majority of Americans are from rural area's, many end up moving to the Urban area's for work. Sometimes they adopt the urbanite liberal elite political view, often they keep their own conservative view but due to social pressures from those liberals don't express it. They still have those non "Politically Acceptable" thoughts and ideas, but can't express it without some liberal elitist screaming at them. Then this candidate comes along who publicly speaks in very off color, very non politically correct way and doesn't bow and scrape when the elites attack him for it. This allows those people to identify with the guy and creates an unreported support base for that guy. Trump knew exactly what he was doing by targeting that population. http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/president Click on the left side "Counties" to see the break down between urban and rural voters. Basically everywhere is conservative except the urban cities which are super liberal. Even in Texas, the cities tend to be liberal while the rural area's are deep red. Liberals respond to this by being disrespectful and dismissive of those people, and then wonder why they are voting for Trump. This is what I'm talking about. Baseless vicious attacks which just serve to alienate them and push them further into Trumps camp. Asura.Saevel said: » They still have those non "Politically Acceptable" thoughts and ideas, but can't express it without some liberal elitist screaming at them. Let me explain what the term "liberal elite" means. It doesn't mean some rich liberal person at a wine tasting, the hipster working at a Starbucks is a liberal elite. In this context the term elite refers to their attitude that their liberal urbanite beliefs makes them "better" then those "poor uneducated rural people". This attitude makes that Starbucks worker dismissive and blind to those same rural people, even if one of "those people" is secretly their coworker who just nods and agrees with them to prevent social strife. Those elitist urban workers created a very toxic environment where it's simply "uncool" to not support Clinton. How is my post a vicious attack? You're just as ridiculous as ever. Too bad you're back.

The worst part of this election isn't that Trump is president but that the republicans have full control over congress.
There's a difference between CJ's point and Seha's.
CJ...is exactly what you're talking about and no matter how many times I say it he's not getting that the way he speaks is basically the same as every right wing person who throws around the word "libtard" and "obummer." You can't say ***like that and expect anyone to take you serious and it does, in fact, just strengthen people's drive against you. Seha is right, however, in that those exact feelings of "*** you, I won't do what you tell me"* won out of reason. But reason left this election back during the primaries. As much as I despise Scott Walker, he was the only GOP candidate that really had anything resembling a reasonable approach to the country. I mean, maybe Jeb. Maybe. And we all know the DNC felt it was Hillary's big party. Well, it was her party, and she can cry if she wants to. America got what America deserves. For better or for worse. eliroo said: » The worst part of this election isn't that Trump is president but that the republicans have full control over congress. Yeah. The worst part of this election has always been that we weren't going to get moderate SCJs with either of these people. |
