>"We want data so we can match it up to another database"
> OK >Provides data >"Okay we have some that didn't match up to anything, can you manually check?" >Sure >Checks data from both sides >90% of these 100% match on both sides of the data ... I don't... Ugh... What boggles my mind more is these are people who have to reference and manipulate data on a daily basis but it seems like they have 0 skill in it.
Like, how do they still have a job? Like, how do they still have a job? I going to make a recommendation that will probably earn me little more than a devastating kick in the balls... but here goes... SQL you mentioned access in an earlier post and I enjoy the functionality of it and I have used it for many many years...but there are just so many security flaws and ways for people to *** ***right up. intentionally...unintentionally...accidentally it's like one of those embodiments of Murphy's Law with SQL you can strictly limit what each individual dipshit can see/read/modify etc. that way you lessen the amount of information... that would only confuse them anyways. Basically, I could make this process a whole lot faster if I had more accesses but I can't get more accesses because of company practices. Also for Access it was just a personal database to speed up a material assigning process for newly created packages, so the only person who could have screwed up that data was myself. :x Shiva.Spathaian said: » The problem being that I don't have access to the backend data for the particular database they're using so I have no way to directly query. oic you haven't answered the three questions yet YouTube Video Placeholder I'd be flung off that cliff so fast...
Shiva.Spathaian said: » I'd be flung off that cliff so fast... my least favorite part was trying to explain why certain people can't have access to certain things... for some reason the statement "because you are a moron" is completely unacceptable regardless of the truth behind it... I tried explaining the intricacies a few times before I realized that if they were smart enough to understand why they can't do what they tried to do they never would have tried to do it in the first place and we wouldn't be having this talk. no see you can't change that info in the database just because the customer calls and asks you to... you have to go through the proper channels for these fourteen well articulated reasons.... etc. I gave up and shortened it to.... it's corporate policy yeah those bigwigs down at corporate...they won't let us do anything... "No, we can't give you guys that power because within a week the data would be *** and you'd all do something we're not supposed to do." Well can you give us X or Y See above answer. Well can you at least grab us X or Y item from the system? "No, that data either isn't saved or isn't allowed to be used by our team. Why? Well because I bet you guys would end up giving out information to the wrong people... or better yet the wrong information to the correct people..." Well why don't we have X, it falls within the parameters we can use... "Well, do you have money to pay for that enhancement? No? Then the developers aren't going to work on it. They have higher priority projects that are actually funded." Shiva.Spathaian said: » stuff The problem with that approach is whoever tells them no is automatically the bad guy. "I can send development an email" cc them and let the devs crush their dreams. Siren.Mosin said: » I should've been a teacher. could be all super smug with the summer off. I've made mistakes. but... kids and paperwork grading and parent meetings I find that as long as you’re not a *** about it and explain it most people just let it go...
