My last gf almost got me to convert my atheism into agnosticism.
We'll call this part the "fine tuning" phase which happens after you start a relationship....
If you asked me I couldn't tell you the difference between atheism and agnosticism... so I don't know if this is one of those "core value" things or not.
But I suppose if being an atheist is the most important thing in the universe to you, then all we need to do is put that in the search engine.... there is a christian mingle dot com so obviously there has to be a satanic one or whatever it was you said...
atheist. are those the dudes that wear trench coats and expose themselves to joggers?

The 'Friends' gal? I remember you gabbing about her way back when. Yeah, that's the one. She couldn't get over the fact that I couldn't believe in a god, and also something about me being a libtard or something. Let's just say I haven't watched a lot of Friends since then.
You've got a lot to offer, Mag. You're funny and charming. You can rattle off lit and pop-culture references. You're fun. Then again, I could probably come up with a least one compliment for each of the regular AHers if I had to make a list. I wasn't fishing or anything, but thanks! You're da best, Zahbles!
That got a right old chuckle out of me.
If you asked me I couldn't tell you the difference between atheism and agnosticism... so I don't know if this is one of those "core value" things or not. Atheism - I don't believe there is a god at all.
Agnosticism - I believe that there might be a god, but I'm not sure.
There's not a HUGE difference there, but one of those is certain and stands his ground, and the other one is playing it safe and staying neutral - like Switzerland.
It's not what defines me or anything, but it was a gigantic deal to her, so that's why it was an issue. It would be the equivalent of a Christian who wasn't antagonistically so, but believed in what he believed in, and one day was pressured to start believing in Ganesh because it would make his girlfriend happy. I stood my ground on that one, even if I was willing to make that compromise.

That's goofy. A carbon copy of yourself is a bore, but I guess that only matters to those who are tenaciously holding on to religion. She actually dubbed you "libtard"? Yeah. It seems like she didn't want someone to share with or learn from. You have to have a decent amount of give and take. Sounds like she wanted you to oblige her first and foremost.

Oh! I know you weren't. Everyone has redeemable qualities, as Nik stated. A little something for everyone.

I would believe in ganesh... or satan if it was important to my wife. but as it turned out she is eastern orthodox and I was an excommunicated catholic. So we got married in her church and christened our kids but we don't go to church on every sunday or anything....
I'm a sucker for good story swaps too.
/shrug does it have to be a good story? no? ok!
The arcadian life force intervenes!
YouTube Video Placeholder
Right... so here we are sitting around at KenBud's place getting high after graduation and drinking beer. So it was a graduation party in the loosest sense of the terms. We were the burners and outcasts and members of the choir or no particular club at all. People with no friends basically. So everyone who was anyone was at some other party for those people... You know the jocks were all at so and so's house etc.
Anyhoo there was only one weird girl there, a bmx'er who I had dated in the past and wasn't particularly interested in dating again... and as sometimes happens when weed is involved someone starts wondering what happens when you die. I think it was the girl.
And even though we were too stupid to realize it she was, through the process of elimination, deciding who she was going to boink.
so when it's my turn I say something like "It would be cool if whatever you thought happened when you die, actually happened..."
so if you believe in reincarnation you get reincarnated and if you believe in hell, you im in a lake of fire....etc.
and this was obviously the correct answer and the girl got all excited. "You Believe In The Arcadian Life Force!?" <excited breathing>
and I blurt out NO! I don't believe in anything, I just said I thought it would be nice....
and this was obviously the incorrect answer
"Then everything you said is all ***" she replied, visibly upset that I had poo poo'd here ideals..
Look! I said angrily, there is a big difference between finding something interesting to discuss and nailing it up on the wall and praying to it. I don't believe anything happens when you die, you just rot in a box and get eaten by worms. game over, the big sleep. no extra lives, no do overs, no refunds.
and this was also obviously the incorrect answer
so she boinked my friend instead, who perhaps wisely said "this arcadian life force thing sounds kinda cool do you want to go somewhere and talk about it?"
b]and this was obviously the correct answer[/b]
So in it's own weird way the mystical arcadian life force did intervene and stopped me from having meaningless sex with a person I wasn't particularly interested in having sex with and instead bestowed the gift of meaningless sex on someone far more deserving.... or at least interested.
So I learned that whether or not you choose to believe in deities, they can impact your life in measurable ways... even if they only exist in some kooky girl's head

My wife hates religion, & I was raised catholic, & I don't know if I was excommunicated or not, but when I left, I'm positive the feelings were mutual.
subsequently, I had eaten mushrooms a couple times as a teenager / young adult, and often pondered these things while idiots prattled on about how many mickey's grenades they could drink around campfires.
I at some point worked at a hotel that a nice indian fellow purchased, and all the rooms had a bible & the teachings of the buddha in the nightstand. so being the deliquent that I was, and maybe some days still am, I stole a copy of each while smoking weed in one of the rooms.
why you ask?
because I worked stupid banquets, & it involved an *** load of siting around for hours on end waiting for peps to get drunk enough to get tired & go home, or have their meeting, or do whatever they paid to do.
I read the bible, & did a lot of laughing, then I read the teaching of buddha, & a few of their core tenants I had thought about on those trips through the woods / reality, & it sent a creepy tingling up my spine like I'd seen a ghost, so as far as this dumb hick from south dakota is concerned, that little indian guy had it figured out.

Wait. Active in church affiliation, active in student political affiliations, or both?
You know, I did like the sense of community and the philanthropic aspects of church when I was involved in HS. I have to admit, I still like doing this and that for my nephew's Episcopal school even though that is few and far between, and more or less for my nephew rather than it being religious.
I don't like his mom. My mom REALLY doesn't like his mom. She's a materialistic slag who cheated on my brother toward the end. Yap! Yap! Yap! Familial bitchin'.
I think the final disconnect with me was the clusterfuck surrounding the attempt to get Lukas baptized. The sweetpea is a wayward Catholic too. At the pique of my frustration he was the one who tugged back on the reigns of clarity basically with, "It's just a competition to you now, isn't it?"

I believe he meant active in the boudoir... it clouded his reasoning. As sad as it is, ^this^. I think back to that Scrubs quote where JD said something along the lines of, "It's very rare to find that special someone who is willing to have sex with you on a regular basis."
That chick was really into the way I looked. It wasn't until later that I realized that my rugged beardy look is apparently a magnet to traditional, ultra-conservative ladypeoples.
I am a little ashamed about that dark part of my life, but now that such a thing is out of my system, I can concentrate on the important things, like personality and less about how much rubrub I can get.

gnosticism or agnosticism doesn't have anything to do with beliefs at all, and not all atheists have an expressed disbelief.
gnosticism has to deal with knowledge.
here, a picture that's just about right:
I'm not going to get into this further as the usual trolls will come out, but if you're going to try to explain what they are, then at least try to do it right.
as for the crazy chick: I'm sorry to hear that.
My douchebag friend of 20+ years had the bible and cross simultaniously shoved up his rear end (figuratively, assuming not literally) and I don't talk to him much anymore, not so much because of that, but more so on the douche part. Also: his girlfriend who stuck with him and moved several states over to be with him left him over that, and she was raised Catholic in NYC, and she couldn't put up with the severity of which he was being a dbag with his born again ***.
I don't hold to too many beliefs that don't have anything backing them up (I do a few) and I've tried to cut back on my ragging on people that do, but some of the ***one sees just makes you want to beat them with their bible.

Since we all can't be on the same linkshell in game, this can be our cross server linkshell thread.
Like most linkshells, it can be pretty dead at times. Other times it's full of intense conversations about either rl, gear, goals, pokemon or anything else you want to contribute.
We can cover any sort of topic at all, within reason of the forum rules. No real main topic, just a bunch of FFXIAH friends/people coming on and discussing random things.

Update: Sorry Eternaltriumph, too much has changed D: (Page 698)
Eternaltriumph said: Yeah Chuu. Bringing you up to speed, Ludoggy is the LS pedophile. I'm the fountain of random and useless knowledge that makes you go "Hrm" with the occasional side of "holy shit he said what?"
Kungfu is the LS nutjob, spouting super random things that are usually sexist, until Savvy or Alyria comes into the room. Then he's a classic case of sexual harrassment. Rumaha is also true to the second part; we're wondering about his sexuality though.
Daj is Ludoggy's gay lover. Not much else is known about this Asuran. Tairo is kinda new, but since is a female and Alyria's lesbian lover, she fit right in real quick.
Celene(F) and Rowland(M) are more of the shyer members, but often say things that are witty, have a good pun and sometimes cause three page discussions. Celene hates when people hit on her. It doesn't stop them from trying.
Krizz is just social and likes to kill time here during work Tbest is about the same, except tends to be a douche to guys and affectionate toward girls.
Alyria is the most social female, gets groped a lot without provoking it by others, and Tairo ends up stabbing people for it. Cai is just a barrel of lols, I might be gay for him. If I wasn't straight.
Not sure about Citag, s/he's new. Kiriyu is just an in-out kinda person. Says one thing every three days that every guy makes a big fuss over. Ludoggy gets really defensive since she's asian and underage (might be 18 now).
Artem is the wayward soul that makes you ponder the meaning of life by constantly reminding us life can suck. But he deals, and so do we. About the same for Savannah, except people are more "AWH!" to her because of a vagina involved.
Dasva is the ex military man (as is Krizz but this doesn't apply to him) who hates the world and plots a way to destroy most of it.
Number2 is kinda like a mix between Cai and I; never bashes, likes to laugh and has odd avatars. His current suits a lot of the convos this LS gets into. Barti is most well known for his moustache. He gives mousatche rides for a fee. I'm missing a few people but whatever. CARRY ON!
