lol @ people who said we werent going to be on an item level system
Who said that? Weren't we always on an Item Level system? There was just no gear past the equivalent of level 99 until now.

More and more like WoW every day. D:
No, they're showing the respective level of the gear as well as when it can equipped. Probably having issues getting through to the 85 empyrean club as to why they're weapons aren't getting updated.
Wouldn't it just be easier to raise the level cap and set the item's level requirement accordingly?

sweet, gearchecks brought to a whole new (item) level!
:P I dont understand this can someone explain why the item level and required level are different?

Pretty much as above but most importantly the game mechanics are not designed to exceed 99. The next level would read 1. There was a discussion about this a year ago and having the max level display as say 5 or 10 in blue just seemed silly to the devs. Valefor.Sehachan said: » Ragnarok.Ravant said: » I dont understand this can someone explain why the item level and required level are different? Thanks! The only "practical" uses of ilevel at this point would be:
1. You get a really abstract idea of what kind of limitations they put on themselves when designing the gear. They make it sound like as if they use some kind of formula to determine how high they put the stats on a given level of armor but they've never given us specifics on that. 2. It lets you know the order of difficulty the events said items come from. Helpful for people that don't regularly browse the community sites and saves them from having to tell us "x new event is content level y" Ragnarok.Ravant said: » Also lol at the mass purple on front page Carbuncle.Skulloneix

In TERA Online, this system is very similar and very tied into whatever you did in terms of endgame content in the game. The item levels of your equipment were required to meet the minimum level set by each dungeon, especially if you wanted to do Hard Mode (HM) versions of some of the higher level dungeons. It also separated the under-equipped and well-equipped players from each other. In a way, you could say that Item Level made players judge whether you were a good player not only on skill but by what gear you had.
In other words, if it wasn't a glowing weapon and high item level armor, you ain't getting invited. So, this would be a double-edge sword for FFXI:
Do not be surprised to come across the following /yells in the game after this is introduced: Quote: "T5 {Ceizak Battlegrounds} NM {Do you need it?} {Looking for members.} 4/18 {Item} {Level Sync} 110+ {equip}" Quote: "{Wildkeeprs Reive} {Foret de Hennetiel} {Looking for members.} 2/18 {Item} 120 (No exceptions!)" Quote: "Uptala VNM {Looking for members.} @ 7/18 {Item} {Level sync} 115+ CORx2 BRDx2 Lv99 R/E/M or (R6+)Delve DD {Can I have it} I like to play fair so players have equal access to getting both clears and equipment from the game. And, I REALLY DO NOT WANT to see a lot of elitist players use this to prevent players from getting access to the same equipment and gear. However, I want players to know how to play their jobs and equip it properly. But, everyone has their reasons for not getting certain pieces of gear. Not everyone is in an endgame Linkshell clearing Delve bosses weekly; knocking down Provenance monthly; or doing Legion on a regular basis. (Funnily enough, this would be the equivalent of knocking down Nidhogg, Aspid, and King Behemoth on a regular basis 4 or 5 years ago.) Heck, most people in real life will have situations where they can't be a part of a endgame LS that does events on a nightly basis turning the game into a second job, which should never happen. And, there are players who cannot stand the stress and demands of an endgame LS to get these gear for whatever reason they have. However, these players would like to still acquire these equipment and gear in order to better and improve their characters, so don't lock them out if they aren't "superbly" equip. Be reasonable and be fair. Everyone needs a chance at doing the endgame events in the game. So, in closing: Once this system is added, please be more considerate to players' situations if they have the inability to acquire certain pieces of high Item Level gear in the game. "If no one helps them, then who will?" Its too late and small to be for casuals ease, it has to be a direct answer to the Adoulin version of ToM as it relates to Plasm and RME weapons/gear. There's really no other reason to do it.
I get that the plan is to let gear (and enemies) continue to get stronger, while the level cap stays at 99. But instead of putting "Item Level X" on there, couldn't we just, I don't know, look at the stats?
I just don't see the point, other than to let the very laziest/don't get it types an easy way to talk ***about their gear. It doesn't change anything for people that know how to gear. I don't need to see the item lv on someone's sword to know whether is crap or it's good. Only people that might be impressed are clueless noobs.

I know. I know.) I think it's just to make things less bizarre when things like Bougonia Rope and Hurch'lan Sash are equippable at the same level.

on topic: I don't think there is an MMO that doesn't operate on an item level system (stats budget) even ffxi, all these side-grades at 75 were probably item level 76,77... 80~ and so on, it was just weird how they stats some of the gear with special attributes or negative stats but it's better kept hidden IMO. I don't remember them ever asking, but its an arbitrary number, they'd lock out all the lvl50 spells/abilities for subjobs. They can't balance the content with the current static level cap, and they can't make up thier minds or be open about thier intentions. Bismarck.Aselin said: » please be more considerate This discussion has really been done to death over the years. You already pointed out other games that have coded the gear requirements into the game itself so you've actually pointed out the problem right there- it's a problem with the developers and not the players. If they were smart enough they would make dungeons have requirements (of which ilevel actually wouldn't help in XI's case given how much we change gear, which is probably part of the problem). Most leaders ask for gear requirements because they don't like having their time wasted and not because they enjoy being jerks, at the end of the day we can't let our powers combine and defeat the monsters with friendship lasers.
