I was half expecting them to release a FFXIV add-on to upset the FFXI player base but looks though I was wrong. Guess that's a good thing I was wrong though.

oh you mean like an entire new game called 2.0? lol.

they just said after the next slew up updates for ff14 (1.23 i think) will be the last untill 2.0. then they are launching the 2.0 alpha/beta clients and they are going to bring it live o/ can't wait lol.

fun ff14 fact: when the ff14 beta goes up, ff14 1.0 will go down forever, char data will take quote "up to one month" to transfer to the new client. lols :<

I was hoping for something like this. I kept saying that VW, event renewal, legion, and everything else really is just filler until vanafest. It looks like they were in fact working on something big, and hopefully this will give FFXI a bit more life and energy to get everyone interested and enjoying the game again.

I don't expect this to save FFXI, but at this point there is not much that can actually hurt it except even more unfulfilled promises. This at least will give players something to explore, which is something many players have been hoping to do for a few years now.

Will they be lazy and just create an NPC to teleport us, will they add an airship? (unlikely)

Maybe an extension of port sandy where we go by ship.
