An artist going by futantshadow on DeviantArt is putting together a chess set which will be a part of the Dark Souls 2 Collector's Edition. The game is planned for release in late 2013. Today, he released a picture an alternate chess piece that can be subbed in for a knight. It's of the character seen in the Dark Souls 2 cinematic trailer.

The artist has yet to showcase any of the chess pieces that will be a part of the Collector's Edition, so you'll just have to wait and see how that turns out.

The artist has also put together some fancy metal sculptures of characters from Dark Souls, the previous game in the series. They're reproduced in meticulous detail.

Some of his sculptures and miniatures are available for purchase at prices ranging between $20 and $300 depending on the size. He does everything from casting to painting, so expect any orders to take a week or two to arrive.

The official Dark Souls 2 website has been given a new facelift in its most recent update, which went live just a couple of hours ago.

The tagline reads: "Go Beyond Death."

The updated site offers a new tagline, a different background, and a pre-order link to GameStop or EB Games depending on your location, for players can place their order for the title ahead of the game's release later this year.

Interestingly enough, the update seems to indicate that the game will be made available on the PC in addition to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 during launch. Players will be happy to note that the dreaded Games for Windows Live logo appears to be entirely absent from the page, suggesting that Dark Souls 2 will not require the obtrusive software to run like the first game.

New information about Dark Souls 2 is expected to drop very early next week, so stay tuned for more details as they become available. We'll be among the first to bring you that information as it goes live.

Looking good! The new healing item looks like it takes a VERY short time to use though (less than Estus or Grass).

The deaths are suitably sadistic! Also quote (paraphrased):

It looks exactly like Dark Souls, but merged with Demon Souls elements even more. It looks.... SO GOOD ><


My only concern atm is now lore. Does all of this make sense? Do these elements actually connect and make sense? or are these elements just random.

It looks so good though >< I am so satisfied with that 12 minute preview ><

THE BOW WAS A REAL WEAPON D; it fired faster and seemed like a real weapon, not so limited like dark souls ><

Early on in the video, it looked like dual wield actually had different attack animations (using both weapons at once!!) too, or was that just my imagination O_O

All they have to do now is to make multiplayer far more convenient and they have me even more sold. It looks just as sadistic as the previous two entries, which is fantastic.

Coming to PC on release (sans Windows Live) too, which is great. I will keep my eyes peeled for more!

(plus that guy in the video sucks but I think that's to make it look even harder)!

I just hope they make magic a little less overpowered. Some of that dark magic crap was a little ridiculous in pvp.

This game looks amazing

Yea dual wield looks awesome, but did you also notice the preview for item/magic slots? You don't have to spam down anymore and skip that item you need, you can see what is coming ahead of time, same for magic.

I was wondering what those boxes were for and didn't pay too much attention! That will save a lot of aggravation!

Ugh, why can't this game come out sooner? The Souls series is honestly one of the best series ever made.

The worries I had are almost all washed away now. It has the feel, the fighting is cool, you don't have a ton of HP or DEF (at least not in the preview...) so you can die just as easily. I think, at least from what I've seen, they have only made it better. I don't know why they didn't slide down the ladder <_< that was annoying to watch... but I'm so excited D:
