Haha, I sometimes wish I had both systems and the game for both. I get hate mail all the time from forest gankers. Honor goes right out the window when you decide to 3v1 me. I get hate mail for running high crit one-shot builds, or excessive bleed builds. Apparently to the gankers out there, that's dishonorable and I should be ashamed. Or maybe they should be ashamed that when alone, they are pure awful at PvP. I watched you fight the CMW Ricard's dude in Barneezy's twitch. That weapon buffed is just super angry. Also if I got the toons wrong let me know lol. I only use midroll. >_> I'm a tanky ***. Black Iron armor for defense, fire resist and high poise, faith build for natural magic resist, Black Knight's shield for stability and reducing Combustion's efficiency, and I rock a spear for safety. If they can't burst me down, they won't win.

I'm not really involved in dark souls communities to get the slang Gankers are people who invite one or two of their friends to their world, and intentionally leave the boss for that area alive. It is most prevalent in Darkroot Forest. When someone invades that world, instead of letting them fight their phantoms one by one, they all jump the invader and if they win they act super smug, like it was some accomplishment. That's the reason why its so satisfying to shut them down, especially in a brutal way haha. Cerberus.Tikal said: » I only use midroll. >_> I'm a tanky ***. If they can't burst me down, they won't win. Beware of Shotel, that's prolly the only thing that can reliably take care of a turtle. I keep a Shotel +15 on hand just for that situation haha. EDIT: It is good to have high poise since I believe they altered the poise break points. Black Iron Armor is just amazing. I wish I could fast roll with it w/o sacrificing stats for a TON of endurance. I won't be able to rock a Pike until after 120 unfortunately, but I think it'll make me a lot meaner in PvP and it ought to counter the Shotel since getting in near my guard will be dangerous. What would people recommend for PvE on a faith build, weapon-wise? I mostly have to whittle away at bosses once my magic is spent. It works because I'm solid, and I don't take many hits, but I'd like to speed it up a bit since I'm considering going for level cap.
@Josi
Basically, people who summon a phantom/phantoms purely to kill invaders in 'official' PvP spots. Dirty tactics vary from person to person. Some gankers have a theme to them (naked people with family masks and dragon weapons) and are fun to fight. Most of the time it's just try-hards who just suck at PvP and want to win by any means they can. @Lxion Yeah, I was the CHaos Blade user in that fight. Mad respect for the guy I was fighting, Dark magic spam aside. Ricard's Rapier is one of my favorite weapons in the game and buff builds are tough to utilize well. @Tikal Turtle builds and massive weapons really give me trouble. I'd be fine if I were good at rolling back stabs, but I'm not. I've been getting a little better, but not nearly good enough. :< As for a weapon, any weapon with a high base damage and lowish requirements and scaling (assuming you're pumping Faith) would be good. Basically any Twinkling upgrade weapon. Silver Knight Spear probably being the best for you, given your tank-y preference. Dragon Slayer Spear is awesome too if you're fine with the stat requirements. Try the Crescent Axe, or just a normal weapon +15 and Sunlight Blade. Try to MugenMonkey your build if you wouldn't mind. http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/ Ragnarok.Raenil said: » @Josi Basically, people who summon a phantom/phantoms purely to kill invaders in 'official' PvP spots. Crest Shield takes care of it well enough though, as well as well timed rolls. http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=386281656568586793
That's where I'm at right now, give or take 12 levels that are going into HP. Ring varies. I have Pyromancy maxed with all spells but I prefer miracles at this point. Working on getting my second WoG, and after 120 I'll be working towards equipping a Pike instead of a spear for the range. I may have to drop a Black Iron piece to make room for the weight variance, unfortunately. No Darkmoon Talisman? Beats Ivory Talisman at those Faith levels. Also, put Ring of the Sun's Firstborn in your second slot for extra WotG damage. Or Havel's to offset the weight issue.
I'll get it next game. Don't have the Darkmoon Blade miracle yet either; decided to kill Dark Sun since going into NG+ soon. Until then, Ivory will have to work. And yeah, I use Ring of the Sun's Firstborn a lot now that my Faith is up there.
Gonna need a lot more endurance, or sacrifice some armor spots for lighter alternatives if you want to use the Pike and keep the ring of the sun's firstborn. The magic adjust between the two talismans is like 8, so its not major. +15 weapons wouldnt work since you'd need high DEX or STR for it to be viable. Hmm.. Yeah a Crescent Axe would work, if ya switched out just a few pieces.
58 Poise is enough to withstand one hit from a two handed Ultra Greatsword and not stagger I believe. http://mmdks.com/buz This would be my Faith build of choice, though, now that I toyed with MugenMonkey haha. http://mmdks.com/bv1 I'm a sucker for katanas Ah, makes sense then.
I really should be using the DWGR on this build since I'm rocking a fast build anyway. The extra invincibility frames would be really useful since I'm poiseless with an extremely slow weapon. Yeah, Chaos and Occult Pikes seem to be my bread and butter. They're nearly equal in damage. Crescent Axe is nice, I do use it, but it's so slow and I hate that it leaves you wide open if you miss. WotG is a great spell, but using Occult and Miracles seems to put me all in on a single damage category. Wondering if I should just opt for Chaos until I start working on STR.
Chaos isn't too bad, but you want to have at least 5 humanity, 10 at most, whenever you use a chaos weapon.
Could try DWGR, or Red Tearstone over Cloranthy. Otherwise looks solid.
Tempted to try Hornet's out. But to pull that off properly I'd be mid rolling so I can poise backstab.
Loved the invasion part, lol. Carbuncle.Josiahfk said: » I'm confused at the negativity surrounding "gankers" in the forest. Anytime I go there I'm constantly invaded by 2 or more people and they do anything possible to secure my death. And yet when someone is fed up and behaves exactly the same on the other side of the coin, it's extremely frowned upon? All it looks like is payback from the behavior they experienced I was even told once to go to the kiln if I didn't like people invading me in that same manner that's being called unsportsmanlike The stigma behind it stems from the more or less unspoken agreement for how PvP is wanted to function by the players. There ARE people on the invading side that are less honorable. The thing is, when you are being invaded, you are either farming the NPCs or going after Sif. These people intentionally don't go after Sif, so someone seeking 1v1s (the arena blows, period) does not get that. Instead they get the 2v1 or 3v1 skilless people who's enjoyment comes from pissing off invaders, and not actually being skilled at the game. The people who tried to 2v1 you are no better thank gankers, and that is ganking as a matter of fact. The general ruling concerning Darkroot Forest is that anything goes. And it's true, anything goes. Doesn't mean I have to like it. Carbuncle.Aeonknight

And the forest is pretty much the PvP slums of Dark Souls. There's no such thing as a fair fight there. Going in expecting it to be so will only lead to people being upset. |
