I'm thinking of starting to collect working swords. I'll eventually get some nice display and replica models I'm sure, but at first, I only want ones that are actually practical.
Amongst some others that I am already going to buy, I was thinking about this one:
Thoughts? It's a bit heavy and long for a one handed sword, but again it is a *** sword.
I have a light 2.5 lb. 27" already in mind. I have a beautiful 6.8 lb. 48" two hand claymore already in mind. This is to fill the gap. Lengths are blade only.
I think the art of sword smithing is a beautiful art and I wish to begin a collection. In doing so, I wish to become proficient in their proper uses, starting with medieval and knights templar uses, moving on to oriental swords and techniques. I did a few years of ninjitsu and mastered various weapons and skills, but this is one that has always peaked my interest due to my love of the dark ages era and video games.
Theres a big store..place..in Pigeon Forge TN that sells swords, knives, ninja stars and hunting tools. They also have an movie replica section where they had replicas of Jack Sparrows sword, Aragorn from LotR sword and a bunch of other movies...and Im pretty sure I remember seeing some video game replicas too..but its been like 2 years since I was there.

I, personally, would buy this
I saw the making of those, not functional. I need lethality in beauty. These weapons need not only be beautiful, but be able to say stop an intruder in their tracks if I can't get to my guns quick enough. I'm stocking up on practical use weaponry before replicas or fantasy items.

Wow, where the hell do you live if you're worried about having back up weapons to your main weapons in case of intruders? I'd reconsider this aspect, instead of adding more potential harm to innocent people.
Sure, having a collection is nice, but if it's for the purpose of hurting someone, that's a different story.

The purpose is to have good looking armory that is functional in which I can master swordsmanship. I just don't want the only swords in my house to not be able to deliver a death blow or cut a watermelon, if prompted to do either.
I do love rapiers, and will probably spend lots of money when I get there, but I want to start on weightier nordic and knightly swords first. I want that 'woosh' at first before I learn the more intricate strikes of rapier and cutlass style fighting. American Rev. and Civil War has some amazing craftsmanship.
They have a signature series that involve very well done hilts and guards incorporated into well envisioned swords. A bit out of my range for weapons I'd mess the blade up as of just yet.

Thoughts? It's a bit heavy and long for a one handed sword, but again it is a bastard sword.
