google chrome loves to throw my stuff straight into the C drive. never cud figure out how tro avoid that, some other stuff directly goes to C as well w/o givin me an option.
chrome://settings/advanced
paste that into your address bar in chrome and look for the 'downloads' section.

Replaced the Motherboard and I still have the same issue. So unless I got two bad motherboards back to back then it has to be either the processor or two bad ram sticks. I'm going to put my money on the processor... its always the little things >.>
Gonna take it in for repair Monday at this little store around the corner and see if they can figure out what the issue is. I don't have a diagnostic board on hand. /shrug
edit: Took it apart - put it back together again. Got it working. Had one bsod so far but was doing some kinda windows update so I'll let that slide. Weeee shiny puter.

bumping this thread instead of making a new one.
doing a build for a friends computer for blackfriday.
I'm having trouble deciding on a good Mobo for his build.
any recommendations?
looking for at least 2x pci-e 3.0 D:
the main problem I'm having tbh is I'm scared of grabbing a mobo that the aftermarket heatsink won't fit into, since he is getting quad channel memory.
any help would be appreciated!

You didn't say what kind of CPU you were planning on using but since you're talking quad channel I'm gonna assume you're looking at X79 based mobos? Any X79 mobo by Asus, Gigabyte, MSI or ASRock would be fine most likely, then it's just a question on picking a particular model based on desired extra features and budget. I'm mostly an Asus man myself since it's the brand that has given me the least amount of issues over the years.
X79 is a pricey affair though, so even the most basic Asus X79 board is $240.

yea I've actually never bought an MSI board before, so I'm hoping it goes over pretty well, but the specs alone are amazing for the price lol.
he got an NZXT white phantom case for $75 with it, got $25 off coupon code for it, and I'm putting in my current graphics card(Radeon HD 6850) in his build until he saves up some more money and grabs something better.
santa is bringing me a 7870 OC edition for xmas :Q can't wait lol.
we spent about $850 for his build, but that's without a graphics card so lol.
kind of pissed off at myself, I grabbed the wrong PSU when i did his order, they had a different corsair PSU for 5$ less, except it was a 750w and it has 4 more pci-e cables -.-;
newegg wouldn't let me cancel just the PSU on the order, they said i had to cancel the entire order and he had already been charged for it. he didn't have enough money to buy a whole nother order, and if we waited for the refund to come in, all the black friday deals would be over :/ so kinda got screwed on that one.

Seems a lot of folks forget that Amazon sells PC parts and sometimes their MUCH cheaper than newegg and TD. Also if your interested in motherboards ASUS makes great ones if your interested in a high-end PC.

I just recently built a new PC with a goal of keeping the total cost under $1000. I didn't need a monitor, keyboard/mouse, or a new copy of Windows since I have a MSDN account through work.
I spent about a week getting Newegg, Tiger, Frys (online and the local store here in Las Vegas), Amazon, and AAFES (military BX/PX) fighting it out of the best prices. In the end that weeks wait saved me just under $300 so I was able to splurge a bit and get a better video card than I initially planned on. I'll wait 6-12 months for the 7870 to drop in price and grab a second one probably.
Newegg got me the best prices because a few of the items were on their overstock list, and they gave me a discount for being military on all overstocked items. Frys in store discounted to being equal to tax free (what we get with AAFES).
Get a print out from Newegg of what you want to buy. Send that, or print it out, and bring/email to your next store. I drove over the Frys in Vegas, and they had almost everything in stock. They beat all Newegg prices and lowered a few by some change. I then took that price list and called Newegg asking if they'll price match Frys. They dropped below their invoice on a few items, and sold at cost on most of my things.
If you got the time, do some shopping around and don't be afraid to price match war everyone, even if it takes a few phone calls. It saves you some cash in the end. The prices I got on most my items are better than any "Black Friday" or Monday/Tuesday sale I've seen yet. I live very close to Newegg's primary shipping center in California too, so I used their cheapest shipping option and still got everything in 3 days.
CPU: i7-3770K ($291.99 at Newegg)
Heatsink: Coolmaster Hyper 212 EVO (Newegg)
MB: ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 LGA 1155 ($203.71 at Frys)
PowerSupply: COOLER MASTER Silent Pro Gold Series 800W ATX 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular ($141.99 at Frys)
GPU: XFX Double D FX-787A-CDFC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 ($213.99 each after $20 rebate, at Newegg)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 ($128.99 at Newegg)
SSD: (2x) Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2CCA 2.5" 128GB (RAID 0) ($91.72 each at Frys)
Case: Corsair Carbide series 500R BLACK ($92.99 at Frys, overstocked with $10 rebate from Corsair)
- I use a lot of RAM because of my work I do at home. Running 3 to 10 VM's at once sucks the life out of 8GB systems, and sometimes 16GB systems. 32GB DDR3 is fairly cheap right now). If you don't need 32, 16 is more than enough for normal users and around $75

So far the single XFX 7870 I got is holding up well. The fans can get a little loud when I manually turned them up to 75% speed but so far they haven't got that high on their own. Even while playing Black Ops 2 at max settings for about an hour.
FFXIV v2 alpha got it turned up a bit though the other night, but to be expected from an Alpha/Beta release. Drivers aren't really made for it yet.
They are a bit pricey right now too. I'd give it a month or two and they'll drop under $200. There is a new series of ATI cards coming out early next year. Wait until they drop to $150 each, and 2x 7870 will give you an awesome gaming rig provided your MB/CPU/RAM can handle them. 2-3 mid range cards can surpass some of the latest/best $500+ cards when tuned right with the right supporting hardware. Best bang for your buck is generally around $150-225 on single cards. After that it's just bragging rights on who spent the most money.

lucky you :( i'm still waiting for my alpha invite :(
but when i hooked up my friends rig, so far the MSI board is really amazing. i think i might just grab that same board in my next rig.
i got my 7870 for xmas (so i can't play with it yet :< ) but it was on sale for blackfriday for about 210$ish
plan on getting a 2nd one down the road when price lowers. (could even get 3 on that board lol)

If you plan on building a new PC soon, at this point it's best to just wait for Haswell CPUs which should be out in the first half of 2013, the new architecture will mostly likely have a significant performance impact clock for clock (10-20%). The key will be to see how overclockable they are. As for GPUs AMD's Sea Island series (8XXX series) could be out as early as January and they look very good on paper.
I have a high end GTX 670 (that beats a stock 680) and while I love certain aspects of it, like the low power draw, the quiet fans even under load and the great performance in modern games, I hate certain things about it as well such has major issues with DirectX 7, 8, 9 stuff. There's glitches, crashes and poor performance. I play a lot of older games and emulators. FFXI for example will crash if I don't turn off the shadows and weather effects. Dolphin performance is worse than my old Radeon HD 6950. If I like what I see, I'll probably switch it for an 8970 or 8950.

I was thinking about waiting for Haswell but if i do the then have to wait for all of the other parts to catch up most likely. There hasn't been a lot of info leaked but heat could be issue with the smaller manufacturing process like it was a bit with Ivy. And i don't want to add more Radiators to this pc it will be entering Modding competitions and more Radiator will make it look clunky. On the other hand if Haswells new integrated GPU the GT3 pulls threw though it will ruin the low end GPU sales making Nvidia and AMD get there *** in gear. witch is awesome plus for everyone. I was going get the new GTX690 to replace my SLI 680s but im going to wait and see what happens when Haswell is released hoping for lower prices and bigger performance increases in Video Cards from Nvidia and AMD

Its Google Sketch up and yes i did make those ^.^
So i had this posted elsewhere to run FFXIV but in my building at Cyberpowerpc.com i decided i want to go beyond FFXIV. Not because i play anything else but because i have the money to for once in my life due to an injury settlement. So for next 2 years im house stricken and I want a beast of a machine. My price range will go anywhere up to 2000$-3000$ (preferably 200-2500$)in the spoiler below ill put what i think (with my lack of knowledge) and I'm hoping for some changes or perhaps a better build for the buck. Building a PC part-by-part isn't for me even tho it costs less, I have no knowledge of building a PC these days especially when i figure the card i chose in my build requires liquid cooling. So any advice/help from someone who knows their PC's would be immensly helpful.

Any thoughts/comments about either machine is nice, I have not a clue about cards and CPU's nemore. Only what i've read being that AMD 6990 is most powerful card on the market at the moment, and the CPU race goes either way between the 2 chosen (AMD FX 8core/Intel i7 2700). I also thot about using dual medium end cards but not sure how that would stack vs 1 high end card. Sorry for long post cuz i r moron. But perhaps it could be fun for someone to help me out ^^.
