I don't think there will be stronger ws's than those gained from emp/relics, cuz people will complain...though there are complainers for anything...

also: Why does everyone want crit. ws's? Do you still want SE to be improving your dmg in abyssea with what could be your final ws's NOT linked to a special weapon(hopefully)? crit. ws's aren't as reliable anywhere else unless they have a good crit. modifier or if you are buffed in some special way. The ws's we have now already add to making abyssea a joke.

I'd RATHER like to see a ws that is reliable high dmg/attk. for outside content, or situational, like -enmity, AoE(or conal in the rng case) etc...[a ws that gives a job something that they don't get from their current ws's] Although if a job lacks a crit. ws, i guess it would be nice for that job to gain a crit. ws.

I know people will always be doing abyssea for emp weapons and gear, but the hard part to abyssea now is the time it takes to build sets. There really is not much difficulty in the fight unless you don't know the strategy for a particular nm. Even people with good gear/ws's fail at nm's when they fail at the strategy.

You seem to be under the incredibly mistaken impression that there's no positive consistency in crit-based WS. Victory Smite, Ukko's Fury, Drakesbane, Chant du Cynge- they're all incredibly reliable, especially when the newest content slams our inventory with temp. items that render most of the WS we relied upon in the past entirely useless.

Drakesbane says hi.

Agreed.

Premise =/= Conclusion

If Ukko's Fury was rendered obsolete overnight, the majority of the WAR base that anyone cares about would throw a massive hissyfit. Drakesbane being superior to Camlann's Torment has kept most DRG from creating their respective Empyrean, and would obviously result in very little backlash.

Drakesbane is part of the minority that wouldn't care if Empyrean-specific WS were overthrown. That doesn't carry over to most jobs in the slightest.

yes, some crit. ws's do crit. more often than others, hence are more consistent, those ws's also come from high base dmg weapons (but i'm not saying you're wrong). Personally, I would like to see ws's that give jobs more options instead of dmg, Dmg, DMG!!! by more options, i mean:
- AoE (some jobs don't have one for their high ranked weapon)
- -enmity (to help out tanks/healers.)
- Additional effects like stun, attk. down, def. down etc. (for mobs that need to be stunned a lot or perhaps before a zerg.)
- Ranged (to stay out of AoE range)
- hell, i'd even use a hp-drain ws on some jobs because i hate to /dnc.

Wish Sonic Thrust was radial AoE cuz then it would be as strong(actually stronger by a bit) than Fell Cleave, only diff is it can't crit cuz no Mighty Strikes and can't spam cuz no Retaliation. But in instances where I'm DRG while a WAR is cleaving, my Sonic Thrusts do a nice 1600-2k.

on mobs weak to piercing, sonic thrust is the strongest AoE i believe...(up to 3k+ dmg on bats, farming gold chests for glavoid) though it's hard to sometimes line up a bunch of mobs when they seem to move around more when there's a whole mess of them...

On anything that doesn't completely resist wind damage, Aeolian Edge is by leaps and bounds the strongest AoE WS.

Cataclysm can break 4500 on nq mobs with the right setup though, if you need to avoid ruby etc or want amber

I'd take both Aeolian and Cata over Sonic thrust just because it's a pain to line up all the mobs... much easier to do a radial AoE. I've easily out dmg Aeolian edge on all mobs with sonic thrust, but I could see cataclysm doing more on non-piercing mobs... I would say that Aeolian edge is the best though, not because of dmg, but because it's usually a thf or nin doing it and they can hold much more mobs than a drg.(yes, i know about super jump...think long-run)

Whatever, it's not like there are so many movements you can make the character do. They have new graphic. Last set of ws wasn't so pretty to look at.

The number of targets a player can sustain, the level of support necessary, the damage dealt, and the rate of TP accumulation are all contributing factors. PLD wins by leaps and bounds on three of the four fronts, and lags only slightly behind in DMG per individual WS.

PLD only counts if they have Ochain and using dagger. A Cata PLD will die just as fast as any other cleaver unless he has Sentinel up. PLD's TP gain is slow as hell too with staff and Cata only does 1800-2.5k with Pluto staff and MAB gear, Smiting Blow/Ultimate/Cosmos. 4.5k is probably with 300% TP and some other MAB atma without Smiting Blow, but Smiting Blow lets you get out 1.8-2.6k out of a 100% Cata. 4.5k maybe with like Wizard's Roll, Acetic Gambir, Shiva's Favor and other random buffs. I've personally never gotten that high and my PLD Cata set is pretty decent, maybe on Licorices perhaps?

I'll agree with Minjo only because there aren't really any serious pld's that don't have ochain by now...

Ochain takes a week casually, a few days intensively. Any dagger off the AH will suffice. I see no reason for exemption on the grounds of prerequisites.

Nobody wants a NIN without Kannagi, a MNK without Verethragna, and there's very little breathing room for a WAR with a Widowmaker. Empyreans are not optional if you want to be treated as a basis for comparison.

As easy as ochain is to make, finishing in a week is far from casual. The time investment is way more than what you would spend on any other empyrean just due to upgrade rates in my experience. Not even counting the potential massive bottleneck you may face depending on your play hours. You're ***out of luck if you happen to be a casual player who only plays around JP prime time for example. Sure you can make it within a few days if you go hardcore at it, but a week isn't exactly casual.
