I use paste.

I can spend 40k at the ah and make 6 stacks of bait in about 15 minutes. Or I can warp to and from guild to boat to guild for 1-2 hours and spend 40k on 20-25 minnows.

The only time I use minnows is after a week or so of doing gp and on the off chance there are minnows, I buy them. Then when I have a stock of 20+ I use minnows.

Either way after 6 hours of fishing I end up with with 40-60 haks. One just requires and extra 1-2 hours of time. The more time fishing and not bait shopping = more gil in my pocket.

To those using Sardine Paste rather than Minnows, do you fish the Sardines on a mule or buy off AH? They seem to be kind of rare on my server to buy stacks of them daily.

I am willing to buy them for 10k/stack and rarely have issues. In the past month there was 1 day where they were not available. I ended up fishing for them that day. I will go through 5-8 stacks of paste a day so I try to have 10 +/- stacks of sardines on my mule to cover a few days worth of fishing.

One nice thing about fishing sardines is you can do it on the dock by the fishing guild so you can just run over when it opens and buy minnows/paste to help get your bait amounts up.

maybe you had the clothcraft signboard already?

bg and wiki list the Atma of the Master Crafter Acquire a Guild Signboard

dont know if it counts toward it, no reason it shouldn't, I already had cooking signboard, so I dont know for sure

So quick question, trying to catch three-eyed fish, kill two birds with 1 stone (need 3 eyes for alchemy skill ups/can skill fishing off them) went to where it is said they are best caught using lu shangs and minnow but i've been out here only getting marlin and items on the line.

Can having too low fishing skill effect bite rate? or are they just low bite rate to begin with? (ps my fishing skill is 52)

You are probably at the wrong seaside. Try the bottom left seaside (Southwest) not the bottom right (Southeast). Minow is also a more rare bite versus Sliced Cod if you can manage some.

try the opposite location from the one calnus is saying. You want to be closer to Jeuno. They do not bite anywhere but SE seaside iirc.
