I haven't fished hakuryu, but I'm willing to wager that a lot of people are botting the fish, so gear related to stamina depletion and line time don't matter.
Not to say that those wearing that pair of rings are definitely botting. I'm not sure if it's possible or not. I'm just going off of a majority of players' discussion in forums.

Out of 10 Abaia i got 8 bass. I think i got a little lucky.
Both hakuryu and ryugu titan, which behave similarly erratic, are harder to reel in with lower than ideal fps, and 14.8, which is what im getting while fishing on my 64 bit pc today, is less than ideal. i experimented extensively with frame rate and fishing circa 2007 as it was obvious to me i could fish better whenever the pirates came out as i was leveling fishing on a p4 iirc. i would use draw distance and a second account + zoom functions to manipulate my fps constantly while fishing ryugu titans and other fish on the ferry. anything less than 16fps made titans worse than they were at 30 imo. I'm talking about using your fingers to push the buttons here, of course. i suspect for bot fishers 15 fps is better than 30 regardless of how quickly the rod shifts.

While Plumb Boots may be fishing related, perhaps they aren't the item you get from Matsya. Dylorian (Carbuncle) mentioned that they may be fished up, ala rusty leggings! As a plumb is used to measure the depth of a body of water, perhaps Plumb Boots have simply sunk to the bottom of such a pool! Granted, they may be really rare to catch on your line, and most of us will cancel an item on our line without thinking twice...

Your preconceived notions of botting are silly, and have no actual proof to it. Though I can just as easily call a GM on you for harassing in game if you say I was botting... funny how that works right? By the way that's not a lie, a GM will sooner deal with an issue of you calling some one a botter (even if legit), than some one who is botting. Why you ask? That answer is simple.... it's in the chat logs and concrete hard evidence of harassing.

I didn't mean to offend anybody with my assertion. I have not fished hakuryu, and have no first-hand knowledge of what goes on at the coast, so I may not have an accurate understanding of the situation. My thoughts just reflect the comments and attitudes gleaned from forums (and not necessarily this particular forum).
The only reason I brought the issue up in the first place was to help Komachii consider that his fishing technique may not be the determining factor between his character successfully pulling in a hakuryu, and other similarly-geared characters doing the same.
Let's remain courteous and on-topic. If anyone has some suggestions for his successfully catching hakuryu, please offer it.

honestly time shouldnt be a big issue with hakuryu, they last a long time. hes struggling because 14.8 fps is uncomfortably low for that particular fish. for gugrusaurus it's a godsend. i dont know what to suggest, tap carefullyier. they are gonna have to make it optional imo. some people have already been able to turn it off i heard.

I'm not looking for max profits really, just have fun right now doing fishing again, if can get some more gil than npcing skillup fish the better though.

Seagull ring is a good replacement for penguin ring. It gives you that stamina depletion, but it doesn't give you the slight bonus penguin ring has of slightly increasing the time a rod stays in the right/left positions.
Seagull is also nice for fishing gugrusaurus, as you won't have to worry about status effects wearing when zoning, and you will constantly have the effect (as opposed to needing at least 2 penguin rings to always have the effect when riding the boat back-to-back over a period of time).
Pair it up with a fisherman's belt, and you're golden. I can't speak for the other ring, though. Never had it, and albatross rings are easy to come by.

if u want a penguin ring, set up item fishing moghancement in your moghouse with a few rusty buckets before you go pop your brigands chart. should signifcantly boost your ring shot. i have more wins than losses using that technique

I'm 99% confident this is false, gm will not do anything about harassing or spam, unless it directly disrupts your gameplay somehow. that's what the blist is for.
so yes, it was a lie. lol though, if you have a counter arguement for your preconceived notions of gm rules, then i would love to hear it :O lol.

Am i missing something here. i thought i had 29 seconds to real in fish (besides hak with ebisu). I had only 17 seconds on Gugs on boat to Al Zahbi (i never fish for gugs so i dont know) if this is normal.

I do like the absurdity of it all: Catch a fish, gut it for another fish, then cook THAT fish into a SUPERFISH.

Just a quick question about Matsya and this new skill cape. Is it at all possible to catch these with lu shangs, or will it break every cast? And if your rod breaks I assume you lose that fish right? I have 104 fishing and ww so breaking isnt a huge deal if its still possible to catch, would just reallly like that cape!
