You can get skill ups off breaks, you lost your catch due to lack of skill messages, and rod breaks. Pretty much the only thing that won't give a skill up is releasing the fish.

I know you used to be able to still skill if your bag was full and had to release fish. They actually had to patch it because people could go over the fish limit for the day since they weren't technically catching fish, so they wouldn't hit cap.

So, if your ww was high enough to repair a rod, could you try to catch fish that would break your rod just to get skillups? I know i've done synths that would break for skillups because the mats were cheap and getting a skillup and the mats back was always good when power crafting. I know fishing isn't something you can power level, it's more strategic, like fishing full moon is always best. (thats one thing i like about it) I had a friend that basicly scheduled his life so he could be fishing every full moon. Lol

Yeah you can, but let me tell you, it's slower than f***. Faster to farm gil by any means and simply power level through WW.

The fish isn't the same for every server; we have three-eyed fish.
Is Fish Ranking the same for all server? I just checked on Ragnarok and its Emperor Fish :S

Yea, i got it mixed up with gp fish. still i think i heard it was gugs on at least one other server (remember someone raging). Eh, oh well. it did skyrocket the supply of gugs on asura though, Ive been having to sell them for 10k a pop.
GM just swung by and asked me to /wave to them. No strange pop-up just a normal tell. I was joking on the LS and put "GM touched my ***"...but I MT'ed that to the GM.

I've never had a GM tell while fishing in the 7'ish years I've been fishing, 4 of those being on ps2 XD
I was surprised to get contacted too and thought the GM was there specifically for me until I saw him going down the coastline and a few people near me have disappeared.
It means someone called a GM on you. They don't do random checks. Happened to me like twice. Afterwards they pretend like they are randomly checking and go to others. The first time it happened to me he said it was random checks, but he never checked anyone else so I just called them back like k wtf
I just dealt with a GM checking me. I had to stop and wave to him. It could be a random check, or we just both happened to be GM'd today by people.
Cooincedentally all the fishers that received tells are 105+. Which indicates a clue that with the update who fishes the most. I too received my first GM tell today and have 106 fishing. I waved as commanded.
I am wondering if someone GM'd me because it doesn't seem like the GM checked anyone else besides me.

Guys, if you do GP today, the listing on here is wrong, and the right option isn't even listed, so I can't fix it. Veteran GP today is Red Terrapin, not Veydal Wrasse.

The new rank doesn't have new items (it still uses veteran), and the pattern is usually right.
And yet, it is also often wrong.
Moral of the story: Check the site, and risk trying to turn in a pile of the wrong thing. Or, check the NPC, and risk making an extra trip to the NPC before turning in the correct thing.
