I just started doing Armored Pisces on my second charecter and she's right about the same level as you. From what I remember from my first time through, and my current run, is that you'll just have to get lucky for skillups. I've gone from .1 skillups, to getting over a full level in a single day.
Moonphase, tinfoil hats, taru sacrifices and naked rain dances all are sure fire ways to improve your skillup odds. Also, this.

You can get triple skill ups with two pelican rings, but I don't think I've ever seen one.

Yeah I'm waiting for my second ring at the end of this ranking. I assume the two-ring triple skill up method still works even if one ring is depleted of enchantment charges?
Currently 95, on Black Sole. Waiting until I hit 96 - still not sure where to fish from 96-100 :/
Any preferences?

You need to have both enchantments active for both rings to take effect.
I did Armored Pisces for quite a bit in the 90's.

Yeah I thought so :( I used my entire pelican ring going 90-97, and this fortnight its gugs >< so not gonna get one anytime soon. I haven't tried a taru sacrifice in a while though, I will have to give that a shot!
EDIT: Just go to oldton to start some fishing, found a dead naked taru fisher by the water, that should have some good luck.
EDIT 2: Taru sacrifice did the trick got 98 woo XD

was reading wiki lol so.. what would the stall + the big one give me? mega moglification +1 fishing skill
OK, so does this mean I would get +1 fishing skill AND quicker discernment with the stall and the big one? -OR- Do you have to have the signboard to receive the quicker discernment that comes from the stall?
Sorry if this has been answered before, but this thread has gotten pretty big since it started. ^^

EDIT 2: Taru sacrifice did the trick got 98 woo XD The problem with any fish at 100, that won't likely break your Lu and cause you all kinds of frustration, is that most of them are in places that are either in a town or a dungeon (Ex. Takitaro on Davoi, Armored Pisces in Oldton, Pterygotus in Nashmau). From what I remember learning while I was leveling fishing (3-4 years ago now so if this is completely wrong please do ignore it), is that anything in a town or dungeon is going to skill up much slower compared to a location such as the ferry or outdoors someplace.
Care to elaborate?
I don't have the inventory space to make fresh bait. And I can't make the minnows due to there never being any carbon fiber around. Maybe the minnows are botted on other servers, but I've noticed there is usually a decent supply of them here on Phoenix. Only once have I seen the guild completely sold out. Some options are the fishing guild in Windy or the ferry (Closed on Lightningday), the fishing guild in Whitegate (closed on Lightsday), or the in worst case if those are all gone you could get Sinking Minnows from all those places as well. Some people swear by them, others think they're just a waste, but either way if you're fishing Haks you'll likely be covering whatever cost you had fairly quickly.

I keep seeing a rise in line breaks on Haks after about 50ish catches. Does the hidden fishing endurance run out faster when catching these or is it my imagination?

Get pelican rings, other than that, it really is that bad. pisces were my fave when i decided to skillup. At that lvl I was trying to fish for profit mainly though.

So, its been a few years since I've done any serious fishing. I did fishing to complement my cooking skill, and so I could make my own sushi. In the last few months in my down time I decided to start finishing off 100 fishing on my alt, and have been debating about going for an Ebisu for kicks. I've never bothered learning much about the legendary fish since I only skilled it up catching fish for sushi.
Anyways, long story short I got a couple of questions for people who know about legendary fishes and the like.
A. Ebisu
1. Is it worth the trouble/investment?
2. I'm assuming that its still primarily useful only for Hak's, Lik's and Gug's. Is there another fish i'd regularly use it for?
3. What rings do you need again to catch Gug's/Lik's with 100 skill and a Lu Shangs?
B. Hakuryu's
1. Can these be reliably caught with a lu? Or am I better off not bothering till I get a Ebisu?
2. How many Minnows/S.Minnows should I take with me to catch 50-75?

From what I hear/understand, you won't have much/any luck with Lu's due to (apparently) frequent rod breaks.
I also hear approximately 1.5 Hakuryu : Minnow on average, so for 50-75, you're looking at say 35-50+ Minnow (at 100).

What bait does everyone use for Abaia? Is wiki accurate on Slice of Carp as the optimal bait? Also, how much worse from Hakus are they catch/break line rate with an Ebisu? There's constant shortages on my server for these it seems I'm considering trying my hand at some.

Hello there! I've become bored while waiting for the new update so I decided to work on my fishing. I am level 32 with a lu shang, pelican ring, and gear + torque. I've heard of all sorts of places to go like bubumiru shall shells, nashmau, and sauromugue champaign. Just looking for a clear answer on what is best for skill ups and not aiming to just get gil. Thanks!

Thanks! Personally I did Cone Calamry and Bluetail at that level. Worked great in Quifim Island.

Shalls are great for skill, I wouldn't waste a Pelican Ring on those tho. You can get to cap in just over 1 week I'd say.

I didnt use a pelican ring till 70ish+ got me well up to ebisu level and then i just capped out on haks

I enjoyed the side gil from Nebimonites before I went to shalls. But different prices for servers may mean otherwise.

Congratz! I got my mule the Shoot lastnight aswell 1/22, lol. Onto the Gugs after I finish with a customer!
There are fishing topics that come up now and then but mainly are asking a question for a single answer. I know there are many fishers that visit these forums so this is an attempt to get people involved and have a little fun discussing one and only one thing, fishing!
I know Blue Gartr has a Fishing topic already, but I would like to see this community get involved a little bit and talk, since not everyone visits BG. I would love to have a topic just for fishers including veteran fishers, casual fishers, and even players just starting out and want to ask a few questions without being embarrassed about starting a whole topic for a simple answer they could not find.
I only ask that you keep any bot talk to a minimum, preferably none. [Moderator edit: No bot talk] I want this to be a place where we can discuss anything from GP items of the day to what lure/bait to use or what area is best. A quick mention of how you're doing on the lu shang/ebisu quest, how you're doing getting your fishing items from Grounds of Valor, that item you're saving your GP up for, or how much you wish you could hurt Zaldon for not finding anything in your fish for the 10,000th time. Your lucky moment streaks and the moments when you have nothing come your way and question why you started fishing in the first place. Anything that comes to mind, think of it as the random thoughts thread for fishing.
