Im Curious.

PPL with Ebisu, that have +46 fishing skill, do you still use gear for fishing skill ?

I'm kinda wondering if i should toss my gear, since i takes up 4 space that i could instead get fish up in, before heading home to empty and sell

Even with Ebisu at 100+8 skill some fish are let go due to lack of skill. So I would think it would be a good idea if you were going after big stuff, and if fishing for skill it's always a good idea to stack + skill gear, however if fishing under your cap I don't see you needing the skill + gear if you are worried about inventory space.

That whole +46 skill from ebisu is theorycraft bs methinks. Yes, I still use the skill items regardless.

It's not BS, you can test it if you wish.

Quote:
Facts verified by multiple fish:
Fishing skill 13 and above fish cap = Auto-depletion
Fishing skill -24 to 12 = Stagnant
Fishing skill -25 and below fish cap = Auto-regen
Lu Shangs has no hidden skill, it auto deplete/regens at the same levels as Halcyon and other cheap rods
Ebisu has hidden skill, it auto depletes/regens at different levels from all other rods

Target: Titanictus

With Lu Shangs:
autoregen at 89 (fish is 25 levels higher)
stagnant at 90 (fish is 24 levels higher)
Therefore, Titanictus skill cap is 114
Therefore, Last level Titanictus will be stagnant is 126 skill
Therefore, To autodeplete Titanictus you will need to be at 127 skill

With Ebisu:
stagnant at 80 (Skill is 12 levels above fish)
autodeplete at 81 (Skill is 13 levels above fish)
Therefore: First level to autodeplete TItanictus is 127, Ebisu rod first establishes autodepletion at level 81. 127 - 81 = 46.

Proposal: Ebisu fishing rod has a hidden attribute of +46 fishing skill.

Check my maths, I'm no good at it. If the math is right we can hopefully find another level 80 ebisu owner at some point to verify the original Titanictus test. And hopefully repeat the test with a fish in the 120's or 130's to make the levels easier.

If you have any evidence that proves otherwise please provide it. Also I use skill equipment with it as well.

According to the test server, it's going to cost 100k GP to get angler's almanac to uncap fishing. Time to get working on my GP again.

Anyone know if there is a way to get GP on the test server? It seems kinda dumb to put it on the test server when most people don't have enough GP to test the item.

All i hope is they nerf Haks, because now all i see is saber shoot 1/3 opal silk 1/1 and stuff like that and they then all botting 24/7, atleast if they doing this, make them go nasty on the ebisu items. Not fair for everyone.

What about the people that fish Hak's without a bot, how would it be fair for those people to have one of their big profit fish nerfed? I'm looking forward to doing Hak's for a few hours instead of Black Sole/Dil, I'm just waiting on my GP to finish up.

The problem with your arguement is: While it's unfair that people can achieve a result through botting, your "proposed fix" (the nerf) would be more unfair to the people that don't bot than those that do.

Consider this (in a hypothetical manner, I don't want streams of angry PM's >_>):

"Pre-Nerf" price is 10k
"Post-Nerf" price is 5k.

I fishbot 50 Hakuryu per night, at 10k per = 500k.
Hakuryu NPC rate gets dropped to 5k per, I get 250k/night.

I fish up 50 Hakuryu, at 10k per = 500k.
Hakuryu NPC rate gets dropped to 5k per, I get 250k for spending a god awful amount of time fishing (taking likely much longer than my Fishbot).

Your proposal would mean my botted Hakuryu get less money while I'm asleep, but my caught Hakuryu make me less money while actively fighting for them.

Essentially, you'd be making me want to "fish less, or bot more".

You know everyone bot these days, ofcourse you won't say "i bot", not talking about you, talking in general. I havent fished Hakks in like a week now, but there are like 40+ everyday, u can check a lot of em has no bait and they afk, others u can send a tell and see they won't respond, havent found a single one not afk :P
No one will fight overnight w/o a bot.. and we all know this.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with botting. It's not a flee hack, or a spawn tool or anything. It's just taking a mind numbing task and making it easier on you, the player. It doesn't influence anyone else. Its like .dat modding. Doesn't hurt anyone else, just makes your experience more enjoyable. You can get an afk FC party for one night and come out with as much/more gil than a fish botter could/would.

Edit: but we shouldn't let this turn to a fish bot conversation.

Just got my Items for my mule, I been fishing with him a lot lately.
Getting Ebisu for my main was a pain, bought most of the fish, spent almost 12m. Decided since my mule's fishing was getting kinda high 60's i'd try to get Ebisu, started fishing gugs and lik in my spare time, 1/253 Saber Shoot, 1/469 Opal silk. Still working on his GP and just hit 78 fishing. I been fishing with him about a year. With my main char I been fishing since I started this game....
On a side note, Hak's are the only thing worth catching. If they nerf them, whats the point? Botting is irrelivent, people bot FC parties. People Bot in exp pt's whether they be melee or whm. People can bot anything. It's been a long time since i've heard of GM's messing with Fish bots. Most fishing bots i've heard of can be set to turn off when a GM shows up or if they even get a /tell. Someone could probly cure bot an exp party and sell the cruor they get and make more gil than fishbotting for the same amount of time.

not to mention if they nerf haks, the only thing you can do with your ebisu is make more ebisu. be happy they are 24/7 botting on hakuryu and not making 100 more ebisu

so basically youre pulling the "if i cant get lures for hakuryu, no one else should either"? how exactly would that benefit you, except you get a ton of sinking minnow, but nothing to do with them

im not really sure why you would even bother with 110 fishing. my lv.90 fisher in most cases has better hakuryu catch rates a fewer breaks than my 100 fisherman, i couldnt imagine an extra 10 levels doing anything, unless theres a new profit fish that requires the KI

I don't completely understand what you're saying because your grammar sucks. I don't see how botting haks has any effect on legit fishers. If everyone stopped botting, Beaucedine's coast would just be empty. Legit fishers aren't going to mess with that ***regardless of botters being there.

I would like to remind everyone that talking about bots is against the rules in this thread, and more importantly the entire forum.

With that said there is almost no event/task that has not been touched by a bot in this game to make it easier. People use whm bots, melee bots, crafting bots, synergy bots, mining harvesting logging bots, gardening bots, chocobo digging/raising bots, the list goes on, and it is a huge issue I think.

A fish shouldn't be nerfed because a large majority of players who fish use a bot 100% of the time. There should be stricter more frequent checks to see if the players are actually there and not afk fishing, but more importantly (as many have pointed out) that ebisu isn't the roadblock required to manage fishing anymore.

There was a dev post not too long ago that mentioned ebisu possibly getting ToM trials, and I 100% agree with this. Fishing should be about dedication and determination, not by how long it takes you to set up a bot with a GM alarm and fall asleep. With trials you would have many benefits:

  • It would weed out the players who really don't like fishing and do it just for the gil.

  • It would allow for more profitable fish to be added to the system with stricter requirements to even allow a fish to bite your line.

  • It would provide performance enhancements to the rod:

    • It would allow for faster stamina depletion of the fish and/or a longer fight time.
    • You could avoid monsters more often like the apron/smock except any special NM's they decide to add in the future.
    • You could avoid more items and junk.

  • It would provide another challenge for fishing if the trials are properly made.

Fishing itself is a test of how long you can follow through with something; that is proven with getting level 100, getting GP (as it is slower than crafts), and with the test of lu shang and ebisu.

Lu shang is a perfect test for fishing, ebisu was not. You can go 1/1 on both fish and you would not be tested at all, yet there are others who go 0/2000. For Ebisu trials I would say we need trials like lu shang, where we have to turn in a certain number of fish to move on to the next trial. Every time you finish a trial you could have the opportunity to catch a brand new fish. Having these type of trials would deter players who really don't enjoy fishing, and give the ones that do the chance to truly enjoy it without others cleaning out NPC's and fishing all day risking the fish's profitability for future inspiring fishers (nerfing it).

More importantly, these new trial fish should be required for new powerful cooking recipes for food and/or jugs. This gives players who undergo the challenges of trials a real benefit for doing so and the higher they move up in trials the more valuable the potential of new fish will be. I think it would also be a very rewarding experience for players who do enjoy fishing, because if you move up in trials you give yourself your own reward with something new to fish.

Edit: The fish you gain access to doing the trial could even be related to the trial itself. A new toad fish, fishing up toads or the legendary toad. A new monster fish, fishing up titans or hakuryu. ect.
