Congrats everyone! On a personal note, finally getting back into fishing after a long-ish hiatus! Just got about 150k in my d-box from nebs and gimms! So glad to be fishing again. Now time to work on skill ups and getting WW to ~80. Ugh.

Decided to start gutting fish for Ebisu.. 0/37 on Liks and 0/2 on Gug... Going to be a long (and expensive) road I fear.
What do people fish for money mid levels? I'm currently 60 and skilling in Nashmau on Ahtapots and Mercanbaligi. Money seems pretty decent but wonder if there's something better? Since I'm still skilling up I decided to do the fish ranking. Got a really good fish, traded it in then the next run got a slightly better fish.. Now in the awkward position on whether to trade the new fish on my main (for title, glory, etc..) or on a mule for possibility of 2 rings.. I don't know what to do! Offline

Get 2 rings hands down. And I have always heard that black sole are pretty good for money, but now that I think of it that was said on older and somewhat outdated guides.
I never fished for gil until I was well into being a level 100 fisher. I'd say just enjoy it and have fun... but yea @.@
If you really want to make gil, look into getting Ebisu as fast as you can. The "journey" aspect would probably be gone if you rush the process, if you care about that sort of thing, but the gil is amazing for just spending like 2-3k on lures and coming out with 200-300k. Offline

What's up with that new fish that's going for like 100k? That's a higher level one, right?

Now it is used in the new bst jug jug of lucky broth and with how many players play BST today there was bound to be huge profit from it. On Siren it has dropped down to 60k, still the fish to catch if you can get buyers. If not then you gotta play with the AH which is flooded with competition and under-cutters. It probably is on the same level as Hakuryu is, and I only say that because the line snap rate is pretty high. Offline

Then that's too high for Crytone. I may only be at 26 (27 now maybe?) so there are prolly better spots, but Nebs in SSG bite really well with shrimp lure, you get Grimms as well (4k unstackable, but meh gilz are gilz) and at 60 they would give you skill ups I think. They're 80-something if I'm not mistaken. And a stack of nebs is 20K on Fenrir atm.
I'm actually wondering if I can make a higher profit from AHing Mercanbaligi's now since they are also used in a new jug (Briny Broth) and it rarely seems to go on the AH on my server... Not exactly a highly sought after jug though, unlike Lucky Broth.
I shouldn't complain about Ahtapots/Mercs, I make 120-140k (from NPC no less) a day if I concentrate and fish my ~200 limit but was just wondering if there was something possibly better that I could also skill on. Fishing unfortunately isn't popular with cooking all that much. Yes there are a lot of recipes but players tend to stick with around 10-20 recipes at a time. Not a lot of fish dishes in demand, SE's fault for that.
You'll be selling the large majority of your fish to NPC's. Briny broth isn't really too popular on my server. No one really makes them so I'm not sure if it's because their not in demand or it's just because no one is making them.
If you want to sell them for cooks to make the jug then I'd advise you to also fish the Rhinochimera as it's the other main ingredient and most likely what's cockblocking cooks from making it right now. Both Mercanbaligi and Rhinochimera can be caught with sinking minnow in Arrapago Reef but I don't how the bite rates will even out. But as of right now, the Abaia is top dog when it comes to moneymaking with fishes. On a side note, I hear that the penguin moves slow so that might be a turn off for BST but then again turtle also has slow movement and it seems to be selling decently despite it's high price. As a BST myself, I can understand why the Briny Broth isn't popular for sure.. Most the time I just bust out Dipper (or Falcorr now I suppose) since they have high evasion and have TH. The only time I use other pets is if they offer some advantage for the fight at hand or just need something cheap to use. The Apkallu pet may have some benefits in certain situations though but don't really see it being a regular on my roster of pets.
My question was based more on getting sales based on the buzz around new items and capitalizing on that (much like Abaia's the first few days was). Possibly it's a pipe dream though and the ship has sailed on them already. Anyways, just finished my daily fishing expedition and decided to throw a stack of Mercs on the AH to test.. If they don't sell I just NPC and only lose the small amount it took to post them. It's annoying to see people crashing the price. SE was talking about wanting to bring back crafting, I don't think they understand that when they made the most desirable gear r/e they killed the system. When they made the choices of desirable foods larger, which in fact ended up being smaller - they removed fishing from the new recipes.
On my server there are 37 up (Was 55+ last few days.) at 40k and dropping. I'd rather spend my time doing voidwatch and selling spells/gear. Sylph.Morihei said: » It's annoying to see people crashing the price. This will always happen with fishing. Since there are so few good recipes that require fish, everyone will always flock to the highest selling fish. Any time a fish becomes popular enough to be more profitable than haks, you will always be competing with everyone on your server. If there was multiple fish in demand of this caliber, you'd see the fishermen spread out a bit more. But as it stands, abaia and haks (and situationally the ebisu fish) are just about the only thing worth fishing atm. Black sole still sells quite fast on my server, sushi is the only fish based food that sells. however not quite as popular as it once was.
My test went well and sold 3 stacks of Mercs rather quickly for the same price as a stack of black soles (on my server). So I guess I'll just stick to Nashmau for now and AH the Mercs and NPC the Ahtapots. My reasoning being that I'm targetting 2 fish at once and therefore won't get loaded with 16 stacks of fish to sell a day.
Noticed my Lik source was online so initially bought 15 Liks from him (all I could carry). 4th trade got my silk.. making me 1/41. Now to find some Gugs...
I then sold 10 of the remaining 11 to a friend and on the last trade he got silk too! No more than 5 minutes after I got mine. Lucky day in my LS! wow, grats on silk. I'm setting at 0/221 on lik. 99.9 fishing too lol
Just a random thought, but how do you get on the test server? And can you attack npcs?
Making threats works, got my silk now waiting on the old man. didnt see it asked in here before but whats the bare minimum to be fishing up hakuryus skill level wise? I was doing them fine at 96/7 with +4 in gear just wondering how much lower you could go?
