there used to be a time where I would call in sick do some dat mining and get ready of the update, make some gil be the 1st for this or that. I don't see what you guys are having such a cry about, you have the ability to attempt to make a piece of your item better, you either take that chance or you don't.
The throw back from all this will be the stimulated economy as people try to get the best augmented piece possible, which will increase demand from crafted items.
It's a great concept and I look forward to seeing the results, it has been implemented really well.

Ya, even random is fine, it's the whole negative stats thing that I think is the real kick in the nuts...
You never seriously thought you could augment your gear however you wanted right? And don't say that the bodies make you think otherwise because it was obvious that those augments were for the body only.
The negative stats makes complete sense, you can't expect to get everything as a bonus. Sure it's annoying but does that stop you from using Spike Necklace because of the negative stats?
I would be more angry at SE if they didn't include the risk of negative stats, otherwise what's the point?

Yea sorry i should clarify, I got it from the Ebon Key that you obtain for beating the final battle ^^;. Everyone else in the group got crappy augs/synthesis mats but i got lucky i guess

Actually, we did. Before the ninja edit to this page, it said that we could be able to choose our augments. And no, that page has NOTHING to do with the 3 body pieces. Given the examples, we fully expected nothing but postive bonuses and quite frankly it would have been a nice way to deal with the fact that there isn't always gear with the stats you want at low levels. Now it's a gil sink, and I don't have gil to burn.

I thought the risk was losing the piece of equipment you traded if you lose the fight? If the negative stats reduce the quality of the gear, it means you're pretty much getting punished, even though it's supposed to be a reward. Random isn't so bad, but note that in pretty much every other event in FFXI, if you succeed, you actually get some kind of reward rather then a kick in the ***.
