Xbox 360 Controller On The PC

Hey, I just wanted to ask a question to anyone who is knowledgeable when it comes to computers.

My friend and I used to play FFXI on the xbox and now he has moved to the USA for a soccer scholarship, he wants to use an xbox 360 controller to play FFXI on his laptop, and failing that any controller which would operate near to the same.

We are both pretty useless when it comes to technical stuff and all that so wanted to know if anyone could put a really straight forward set of instructions on how to use a 360 controller on the PC.

Hey Scotty, I remember you from Siren.

I know it's gotta be the build-in wired controller for PC. I'm currently using a Logitech ps2 controller. I configed it no problem with the gamepad.exe thing in the toolsUS folder of FFXI.

Wireless controllers also work, but you have to buy an adapter for like 10-15 dollars, maybe cheaper on eBay.

i never could get the triggers to work personally but its a afterglow controller

Should be able to get the triggers to work if you use an external program such as Xpadder.

I've tried many times to get teh triggers to work and just said screw it and made the bumpers my macro and back auto run.

Translate page to English using altavista or w/e and download the driver for your OS. These are the only driver's I've found that allow the triggers to work correctly.

You can go to a Fry's electronics or Best Buy or maybe even a walmart. Theres a PC xbox360 wireless controller and adapter you can buy and you can get the xbox usb wire charger and use that so you can save up on batteries.

with the wired one it was just plug and play...then i just went to the start screen down to pol under programs....then ffxi configuration...enabled the game pad then configured game pad for how I wanted it. nice and easy ^^

Why is it that whenever I put FFXIAH avatars into tineye, I never get any fullsize results? D:

triggers wont work because the PC/Game does not recognize them as buttons, but as pressure sensitive analogs (Z up / Z Down respectively i think)

I use a Ps2 Controller Adapter. bought mine after a week of FFXI was launched. sadly, i end up replacing the gamepad every 6 months or so

i have and do use this on all my pcs. the 360 controlers are tanks. take agood beating and last forever. easy to program. yea you haveto use the bumpers and i usally set my back button as my auto run button.

i have done the wireless method before to but if u do and your controler goesto sleep you haveto restart ffxi for itto find it again so i stick withthe wired one. plus no batteries to charge ^^

my controller goes to sleep a few times but i never had that problem where I had to restart ffxi... and its nice to have a laptop on a desk or something and lay back in bed and play...unfortunately the textpad for the 360controller blows.... so I use the ps3 one =D

I'm with this wired 360 controllers are tanks....one of my wired 360 controllers mic input burnt out and at that time it became teh dedicated pc controller....I've actually started using the wired 360 controller even when playing on my 360 because after 5+ years my batteries are burning out and it's easier than having my controller die...also if i use xbl chat to talk with friends my controller doesn't go to sleep ^^

Haha Urial if I said he had a football scholarship I'm sure people in the USA would be like wait......... the UK plays football?

Think of it as me taking the time to translate for you guys ;P

I spend my summers coaching 'soccer' in MO so when im speaking to Americans I just translate my words (rubbish----trash etc)
