Japan Earthquake/Tsunami

Well goodnight all, hopefully things will look less chaotic when i wake up

Thought so too, but when I made my original post the EAS (Emergency ALert Syetem) had gone off and every channel was broadcasting Tsunami Warning for 7:00A.M PST, I still think we're too far out, who knows though, if another quake hits in the right spot it could intensify the Tsunami/

What about Alaska? Are they affected, even being way up north?

Yup, we are under Tsunami Warning, first waves expected in about 4 hours... :(

Just woke up to this :S Blimey it's all a bit messy isn't it.

Watched the vids of it on BBC iplayer where they followed the tsunami wave just sweeping across the ground, and people were driving down the roads about to be covered in water...I found myself willing them to just turn down a road heading away from it as fast as possible.

My uncle/aunt/cousins live in Oceanside, CA...I think I should make sure their aware of everything and hope the waves aren't going to hit there.

Just got Tsunami alert for San Diego. :( I miss the Bay area.

Yikes, this is quite frightening especially when it is occurring in such a widespread area all at once.

I have FFXI friends who live in Honolulu, so I hope they'll be ok. I chatted with them on the phone and they know so hopefully they do the right thing.

Taiwan just got hit by "a" tsunami and it registered only 0.5-1 metre, so by first glance it looks like they dodged the bullet. Reason why I say "a" though is that several waves could hit from the one quake, and the bathymetry (ocean floor topography) along one direction could be highly variant from another, so it's difficult to say if the rest of the impacts will be significant or not...

i have some good friends stationed in kadena afb, they aren't quite excited about this.

I know this is going to be rated down to all hell, but...


The comment wasn't that bad, a bit too soon perhaps. But with every big news story, everyone is super sensitive at first, then give it two weeks, and we're gonna see meme's everywhere that a lot of people will laugh at. Where nobody will give half a damn anymore. It bugs me how at first, everyone is always all up in arms, but then later they'll laugh their *** off.

I'm not saying that I don't find some of these in bad taste, I just think some of us are guilty at laughing at, at least one of these one time or another. But if we dared laugh at it right after the incident, we would have been horrible people, in others eyes.

I've heard of making fun of ***about a week after the incident, but on the same day? That's just cold, even with my dark sense of humor D:

That's cause 2 weeks later, people know relatives and/or friends are ok, and news coverage has beaten it to death.

People make jokes about it to laugh it off and not think of the negative. Calm yo *** quuuuuurl.

I suppose people deal with grief and misfortune in different ways.

I just heard on my morning news that there have been 29 deaths in Japan. It could have been so much worse. Considering what game we all play, I think we've all interacted on some level with someone from Japan or on the West Coast of the US. My thoughts are with all of you and I hope the rebuilding process is swift.

Not yet. I keep the news on pretty much so all the time. I'm guessing our National Guard and Red Cross will make an appearance in Hawaii and Cali, and will probably head to Japan at some point. They're probably waiting for the tsunami to pass before taking much action so we don't lose a bunch of people.

My god this is insane. You know ***'s bad when even the Marines evacuate. But seriously, I hope the death toll remains low, and everywhere affected by this pulls through strong.

I'm still reeling from the incidents going on in Libya, but now this... It's rather overwhelming ;/
4 AM and got work in the afternoon, should be sleeping, but instead I'm checking up on the news and reports to see how bad it really is and how many made it out alive.
