I like actually getting responses to PMs to community team members. Zann typically responds to me within 30 minutes. Usually less than 5 minutes though.

Hey, everyone.

As you’ve probably noticed -- We launched! Last week was four retail launches in four different territories. By and large, everything went extremely well. Nothing exploded, and we’re rapidly adjusting to the pace of being a live game.

Now that we’ve all collectively survived the process of taking a game from Beta to Live, it’s time to resume focusing on what’s coming up in the future.

In the next day, you’re going to see our first real update. (8AM PST Thursday for the NA servers, 2AM UTC Friday for the EU servers)

This first update does have some new content, and also includes a rather large collection of tweaks, fixes, and updates that come from a few different sources.

They’ve been picked out of what people have been reporting in game, as well as a number of beta-reported polish items that didn’t make it in time for head start, and also some further refinement and tuning after seeing what happens when people finally get the chance to play characters that’ll be around forever.

Some of the things to expect tomorrow are…

• Raid rifts!

• Improvements to Rift, Invasion, and Foothold experience gains

• See more quests at once in the tracker if you choose

• Better item stack management

• PvE end-game difficulty better suited to the power of real end-game characters

Making sure that we can do an update like this successfully is an important step on the road to doing even larger scale content and systems additions in the not-too-distant future.

Our team will be right here while this first update is going on. We’ll be checking out the servers alongside you, and will be here to respond to any surprise issues that do occur.

We also have a lot more in development than the first look you’ll be seeing tomorrow.

On top of ongoing new content and large feature development, many of which you’ll be hearing about on our site and others, there are some other, smaller improvements we’re working toward – I wanted to call these out specifically since they’re pretty frequently commented on.

• Mages. Yes, we’re both listening to you and paying attention to the post-launch gameplay data on our servers. While a well-played mage does do extremely well, and mages are very well represented in the overall number of active characters, there are issues with competitiveness in some low and mid level ranges and certain combinations of souls, due largely to mages’ overall fragility and cast times.

• Mail Spam. Chat spam protection has been going really well on the whole, which, predictably, pushed spammers into mail. We’ll be putting more protection in place there soon.

• Event Contribution. This system is being reworked to be more in line with the idea of events being massively social occurrences, and the focus on abilities themselves will be going away entirely.

• Anti-Hacker Protection. As a very high priority, we’re working on new and interesting ways to help you make sure your account is protected from password phishing and keyloggers. In the short time since head start, we’ve already banned a couple thousand spammers, hackers, farmers, and thieves. We’ll continue improving our detection and ability to take action on them well into the future.

• Dismount and Exposed. Expect some changes here as well.

Thank you all for your dedication so far – We look forward to this first small update, and a host of even larger ones in the future!

- The RIFT Development Team

Looking really bright for the future of the game.

Glad you posted that. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

Glad they're adjusting rift XP. Maybe I'll quit running around them as much while questing.

Glad for more quests in tracker. It can get a bit tedious remembering which quest you had to bump off, or accidentally bumped off, for another. I'm actually constantly at my 25 quest max right now. I've already removed a few of the PvP ones that wouldn't give XP anymore.

Curious as to what it means about item stack management. Hopefully it's an increase to stack amounts for things like cloth that quickly fill the inventory. Probably going to make it so you have more options than splitting stacks in half (slidebar / number input).

This to me says "Wow, you guys are better than we thought. We need to beef up the difficulty." Personally, I can't wait for end game raids.

I couldn't tell if they were stepping it up, or down. I think it just said it was being adjusted to fit the actual abilities of endgame players.

Well I definitely don't want them to step it down. it's been a long time since I've felt challenged in a game. I was having fun wiping constantly!

I just don't see how it would scale to the players capabilities? Would the mob get easier the more you wipe or something?

What was causing the problem? Sheer number of mobs? Raid setup?

I remember them saying at one point that some raids could initially take a very long time, but that we'd eventually get the hang of them such that they could be cleared in a few hours. I think it was in the video where they introduced the rift raids. I like the idea, though I could see it being problematic for less determined/skilled groups.

One of the podcasts I listened to said the raids would take no more than 2 hours. With the 'right' setups, I see this as plausible for everything prior to the expert raids. I'm not there yet so I can't comment.

If anyone's interested in the full patch notes and you don't read the official forums:

Source

There's an entire forum section for every set of patch notes since Head Start began: Patch Notes

Also, the fix to the Guardian epic quest saga would have been nice when I was still on that section of it. T~T My god the saga quests are tough.

was playing on an off, found (tried) pvp yesterday for the 1st time on this game, and was hooked. went 16-20 from pvp'ing alone xD
Double poison coated arrows is soooo nice for dmg :D
(and a knife to the face if they think they won just because they got pass inside my bow range)

-still too unsure about Ranger sub, mainly used for the pet, but might change it to soemthing that grants more stat bonus

@Krizz, the boss battles are just hard. The amount of mobs was the exact same except they were 52 elites. They were also pretty hard lol.

King's Breach expert is stupid hard too on the third boss. There's a melee manticore and a caster manticore. You have to tank both or have someone offtank while the other gets killed asap. I tried to tank the other with riftstalker but I didn't have any toughness on my gear so that didn't go over so well :/

But yep, working on my second 50 now! I have a 30 mage already haha.

Chloromancer + Main healing dungeons = FUN TIMES TO BE HAD!!!

due to FF being gone for who knows how long, im gonna go grab rift. I was wondering how the solo aspect of the game is, or is a party necessary to gain levels like 11?. 11 was my 1st and only mmo so i dont really know what top expect lol. whats a good job to start on,if any?(rogue jobs seemed the most interesting to me). and ill most likely be going to a PvE server.

Well. Take a look at the majority of your capped jobs on XI and then compare it to FFXI.

Rogue = Thief, Dancer, Ninja, Ranger, Corsair(and bard lol)
Cleric = Paladin, White Mage, maybe a little Black mage
Warrior = Paladin, Warrior, Ninja, Dragoon, Samurai, beastmaster
Mage = Red Mage, White mage(seriously), Black mage, Bard

This is a pretty solo oriented game however you will always be grouped with people. IMO, that's much better than any other MMO I've ever played. I'm not forced to group nor am I forced to solo. If I get tired of questing, I go rifting or form a dungeon group. Vise versa for solo.

for PvE server, I'd suggest faeblight. It is a RP server but typically, everyone is super nice and helpful :)

Hotfix #8 - 3/17/11

COINLOCK FEATURE -- Account Security
* If your account is logged in from a significantly different location, your characters will be 'Coin Locked' until an additional ownership verification is made.
* A Coin Locked account will receive an e-mail to their registered account address containing a code to enter in-game to unlock the account.

* A Coin Locked icon will appear on the bottom center of your screen if your account is in this state.
* While you are Coin Locked, characters on your account cannot:
- Access the Auction House.
- Send Mail (can still receive and view mail or remove items).
- Sell to vendors.
- Salvage, Runebreak, or destroy items.
- Trade.
- You can continue to play and gain coin and items, but cannot get rid of them.

* If you are Coin Locked, click on the Coin Lock icon and enter the code found in your e-mail from Trion.
* You can also have Coin Lock emails re-sent to your email address by clicking the button on the Coin Lock interface.
* Once you have verified ownership from a new location, that location is whitelisted for future account access.
* If you cannot access your email or are otherwise unable to change your Coin Locked status, contact Customer Service.

MAIL SPAM FILTERING
* Reporting mail as Spam now works a lot more like the chat and /tell spam system.
* Sending mail that the game filter recognizes as spam results in an additional coin charge.
* Mail you receive that has been flagged as spam will go to the Spam tab of your mailbox UI.

GENERAL
* Made a number of changes to how NPCs react to higher level characters:
- Characters under the effect of Exposed no longer have an additional chance to be dismounted.
- Reduced the minimum aggro range of monsters significantly below a character's level.
- Increased the rate at which aggro range reduces as a character's level increases relative to a mob.
* Fixed Forest Disruptor companion so his footsteps are not as loud as a full-size Treant.

ZONES
* Runic Descent: Expert: Corrected an issue where this instance could end with players still inside.
* As a result of the above change, the Captured Soul NPC will be re-enabled after this update.
* Moonshade Highlands: Rational Ward: Fixed issues with quest not updating.

RAIDS
* Greenscale's Blight: Ongoing tuning for Duke Letareus, Infiltrator Johlen, Oracle Aleria, and Prince Hylas.
* Greenscale's Blight: Prince Hylas is immune to player abilities that reduce healing taken.
* Greenscale's Blight: Fixed an issue that could cause Greenscale's protective Life Aura to occasionally not spawn.
* Akala: Reduced health of Stone Wardens in the Akala outdoor raid to make the first phase possible with 10 players.
* Akala: Akala's Aegis of Stone and Gift of Laethys buffs can no longer be purged.
=============================

Technical Assistance
For help with account or installation issues, please contact Customer Support at http://trionworlds.custhelp.com.

You can also contact support through the help button (marked with a '?') in-game.
I think the coin lock thing is pretty cool.

Since FFXI has been down me and a few friends from Diabolos server have gotten pretty stir crazy and each decided to pick up Rift for ourselves. So far there are about 3 of us who play together, and a husband and wife we met today who are from Siren server who are also trying out Rift to occupy ourselves.

Playing together so far, I definitely reference a lot of things from WoW, as Rift is so similar in comparison. I wouldn't really say it's a bad thing either since WoW really did a lot of things right, and it seems like Rift picked up those things to make their own MMO pretty familiar. I must say, it really is a great change from FFXI (Even though XI will always have a special place in my <3).

My friends and I started up on the PvP shard NYX if anyone would like to come join us while FFXI is down. We have established a low man guild at the moment to familiarize ourselves with the game as a group together, and would be more than happy to welcome any other fellow XI players in with us.

Feel free to send me a PM if you'd like to join us and would like some help with quests/leveling/dungeons!

If you're grinding levels, urdoinitwrong. Quests will put you at the appropriate level if you complete them all before moving on. Rifts are an acceptable form of grinding, though I wouldn't call it that with the amount of XP you get now.

Ragnarok.Hotkarl said:

There's so much spam in the shout channels that I ignore my chat tab that has it. I created a tab with guild/party/system messages/xp only so I don't have to sort through garbage and/or miss things.

To both Aly and Uri, if you're having an issue with a quest, boss, zone, etc. you are either underleveled, or should look at a different soul spec. Some of them aren't viable at the lower levels. My tanking build isn't viable until 18, and I didn't start using it until level 23. Just an example.

Catch me on Krizz or Krizzle (crafting alt) and I'll give you a hand with rough spots.
