But they showed a clip of the fight between them and it's during the day. I don't think you would be fighting a ninja during the day.

That would slow down a Spartan from making fast wide swings with shield but still would be able to stab with the dory/xiphos or chop with the kopis.
I think one thing the show lack is strategy in some aspects.
The ninja would probably try to blind the spartan and evade or simply disengage if he didn't have the advantage in the situation.
The show would of been better, IMO if they did the match ups, had their results and then let people online play out the results in small or large combat to see their results.

It's not that you need to limit their combat capabilities. you need a place to hide to pull off an ambush. You can't hide in an open field or a sparsely wooded area. You need dense overgrowth or elevation advantage to successfully pull off hit and run tactics like a 'ninja' would. Then it brings in the point, anyone skilled in Guerrilla warfare could make a mockery of an elite ground force by hit and run tactics as long as they had means of escape.
So if you place a Spartan and a Ninja in front of each other in a field, the Spartan will win 90% of the time just from training and his shield capabilities.
You put the Spartan and Ninja in the woods, away from each other, the Ninja will win 90% of the time.
The ninja would probably just use poison or kill them in their sleep rather than a straight up fight... It's also worth noting that in a straight up fight a spartan would likely have no idea how to deal with a kusarigama. The ninja could also have access to bombs depending on what time period you are pulling them from.
It's impossible to know for sure which would win because any fight they have now they will both know each others tactics going in so the show really proves absolutely nothing one way or the other.

kusarigama is a poor weapon. If you can catch a baseball, you can block a kusarigama with a shield with ease.
