Harassment isn't, I was last on the parse so the boys ragged on me. Square-Enix bans people for harassment if you have legitimate claims. The blacklist function is for pretentious people that think they're too good to interact with players they deem as less than them. Not so you don't have to accept social accountability for catfishing other players to get stuff from them.
Catfishing definitely happens. I have seen my fair share of boobs being flaunted to gain gil or items or invites, and guys using an excessive amount of =^.^= to pretend to be cute women. Those things exist and are insanely stupid. I'd argue they don't happen
as much, nowadays (tho I can't realistically say), but it doesn't mean harassment doesn't also happen.
I have had the displeasure to deal for six months with a guy who would insist that me having a girlfriend was an act against god and it was the reason I was in a car crash. This guy kept saying that I sucked at the game because I didn't know how to cooperate because I hated men, and would then proceed to tell me pretty graphics stuff, arguing that having a "real experience" would finally put some sense into me. I reported this guy twice a week for
months and nothing *** happened to him, the GMs I managed to talk to (about five times) all told me to blist him. I did, then he proceeded to make two more characters, once claiming that he "wanted to experience the game again from start" (which could have been true, possibly, I don't claim to be the only reason he made a new char), and resumed his harassment. The second time (the third char he made) he pretended to be another person, saying the same stuff but in a different tone, then escalating until we were back. And we only discovered it was the same guy because he posted a screenshot where we could see the name of that other character on his PC.
People who think the world revolves around them exist. Men acting like entitled *** "against" women also exist, which is the reason why so many on us
do not *** talk on discord. After the first time I did that I received private messages
for weeks telling me how "inspiring" (euphemism) my voice was and how sexy my accent is. A few were nice and endearing, most were *** inappropriate. I permanently removed discord's ability to activate the microphone since. Anyway, this is a rant for another day. The other point stands. Maybe you have never personally done or seen any of this, doesn't mean it didn't happen. Ask any of your "confirmed" female friends the amount of *** they have to put up with. Oh, and it's not just women.
And the GMs always just tell you to blist them and go on with your day.
