ASA is ambition, ya? I have that atma covered in gear, so no need. Not sure if merciless counts towards FC cap. If so I have no need. And apoc maybe if you plan on dying a lot. Instant cast is honestly annoying to me on a mage.
I use Allure, Minkin, and Undying on WHM. Fastcast atma's only on this that I go /BLM to, which is pretty rare.
Situational is more like it. But "trash atma" and "waste of an atma slot", I don't see it at all.
