I guess Innin and evasion bonus traits don't make any difference ; ;
Edit: Closed position merits too!

B+ = A- ??
WHA???
I did not say better, I said just as well, its only a 13 level skill gap between nin and mnk, 8 of which that can be covered by merits, dnc and mnk have the same rating. Selective reading etc...

Best solo job is dancer. Best job when accompanied by a white mage is probably monk.
But really it's abyssea. The ***is jokingly easy. I can barely drive myself to get interested anymore because it is so easy.

Hm, I was misinformed of which part of yonin was decaying, is there a number on the amount of evasion it grants?

MNK and NIN are pretty tied as far as tanking goes, each have their bad points, NIN lacks the incredible amount of hp MNK gets regardless of merit abyssites, also mnk can take a good hit, ninjas denfense is somewhat comparitive to paper.
Whilst MNK lacks the amount of shadows a ninja can get on top of nins high evasion and enfeebles, mainly kurayami: ni it sets nin on top of the evasion jobs from my own perspective.
The better tank is entirely situational, though.
nins cant take too much magic damage well due to hp, whereas mnk can competently take a -Ga spell.
It's all specualation to me, either job is fantastic at what they do.

You're right Leo, mdt and mdb gear for magic spells isn't hard to get either.. also the aid of bar- spells, carols, shell.. Anything over 2k HP and you shouldn't have any problems. I've seen horrible versions of both MNK and NIN attempt to tank because they've been told that it's the new thing.. kinda funny :p

Migawari is also worth noting... I don't see any Monk Whm duos taking cactuar NM in altep or Chariot NM in Grau. ***is situational though of course.

Actually, Migawari makes it possible to solo Tank Assailer chariot as it completely nullifies dicoid.

'Best Job' is whatever you enjoy playing the most. Plain and simple. There are several jobs that I don't enjoy playing for a multitude of reasons. But there are enough of them that I DO enjoy playing. I encourage people to play the jobs that they enjoy the most and to hell with everyone else. Can debate which job is better for whatever, but when it comes down to it, it don't matter. Dnc can be argued to be the best solo job, but I've been in situations where my thf had a much higher survivability. Key word here is 'situations'. and that's the key for survivability. Picking the job for the situation. That being said, there's always more than 1 way to skin a cat.

I have only ever heard one person say that in my life. Are you my CS Professor? :P
And no, just because it may be your "Best Geared" job or the "Job I Am Best At" doesn't make it the best job.
Pretty undeniable that WHM, MNK, NIN are pretty much the best jobs. MNK and NIN are the best at DDing an Tanking and WHM the best at keeping them and anyone else alive; outside of manaburn situations, that's pretty much all there is in XI, and if they're the best at that, then they're the best.

wow this is still going.
Only thing people seem to really care about is procs and what can solo what.
I like Rayiks comment, not just because he is a DRK like me, but because he sees sense, that no job is the best job, you could be NIN WHM MNK BLM RDM, or any other job and still be completey hopeless at this game, its the player which makes the job what it is.

Said a million times, but I'm going to repeat it. WHM by FAR is the most overpowered job in the game right now. MNK and NIN are near-tied in awesomeness. They both have their pros and cons.

Clearly missed the entire point of this thread.. also blinded by the illusion of a completely balanced game. The question this thread posed was which job rated highest on most aspects of the game. The direction it's taken has made it necessary for specific jobs to ALWAYS be used inside abyssea. As far as versatility goes, as well as necessity, Blue mage is the winner. If DRK wasn't needed for blue weakness trigger, there's no doubt it would be the LEAST useful job in the game, so stop it with the stupid "no job is the best job" crap (who wants to blue trigger in slashing over blunt anyway). The thread should've lasted one post lol...

When we talk about what job is 'the best' we're talking about all the jobs lined up with the best possible gear, with the best possible player. It's the jobs POTENTIAL. My DNC is super awesome, and I'm a better player than the majority of the population. That does not suddenly make DNC a top-tier job. It does however make DNC my best-geared job, and the job I'm most skilled at.

Still missing the point that this does not really matter, when we get to 99 its just going to be started all over again.
Of course the game is not completely balanced, but there is no chance that every single job is needed in abyssea, specially BLU, i have had many parties without the use of a BLU, i see more drks in abyssea pt then blus.
I dont really care for triggers, but yes i have seen some whm lately in abyssea, and they are awesome, if there is any job you want for abyssea it would be WHM, and then probably BLM, NIN and MNK are pretty cool, although i have seen some MNK try and tank this NM, and they simply could not do it, they cant tank everything as well as a NIN or a THF could, i know this for a fact as i seen it.

If you disagree with this statement, you're playing with the wrong people.
A complex question to say the least, simply because of what we can be talking about, dmg output, soloing, the necessity of having a healer, whats the mob etc...
But, if you had to decide which job would be the best to take to 90 (99, whatever), taking these things into account what would you say comes out with the most pros? For example consider a graph, a questionnaire of scale, 1 -10, one category is DMG output over speicified amount of time, one is the ability to Solo on a scale of 1 - 10 (which would most likely rest on the amount of mobs the job can take on as opposed to which can take on the least)
Of these categories, what job would you say comes out with the most points?
