If S.E. is determined to "minigame" all aspects of FF14 i.e mining, fishing, crafting, browsing through 100 people bazaars (yes a minigame of shoparound)... then people will be turned off and head over to Blizzard or another company to play other games.

I think their attempt to tackle present and future RMT in FF14 is hurting the vast player base. Yes, maybe the RMT's now will have to work 9 days a week instead of 7 to produce mass quantity of items/gil thanks to all minigames in between. But, by the same hand the other 99.5% of legitimate players will be annoyed on stupid minigame to mine a silver ore and so on.

I am looking forward to spend next 5 years on FF14 series, but if things don't get any better by the end of this year... I might have to move on to another MMO.

I kinda enjoy minigames or crafting/gathering is pretty boring.

I understood the quote quite well. People don't have to play or view something to understand it's bad. That's what reviewers are for. When you have this many reviews saying that this game is an abomination, chances are, the game is pretty bad. Perhaps some people take the bashing a little too personal. Perhaps some just want to troll. Doesn't really matter. A bad game is a bad game.

I'm not taking your bashing personally, but I have to point out that, unfortunately, your statement is the definition of succumbing-to-peer-pressure-and-mindlessly-following-the-herd-and-bashing-the-game-just-because-everyone-else-is-doing-it.

It is perfectly ok to read other's reviews and decide for yourself that you won't play the game.

It is entirely another to tell others some game sucks when you haven't played it yourself and have no basis to say such.

I'm a firm believer in the "if you're going to pass judgement, then you need the credentials to do so" philosophy, and you don't have the credentials because you haven't played the game (this is where the mindlessly-following comes in). I'm sorry but "I heard from reviews and a million others are saying it" doesn't count.

I'm not here to deny FFXIV's flaws and defend it with zeal or such, but lets try to look at this objectively. I wonder how many people in the world actually played FFXIV? Lets say 200k (just a ballpark), then only those 200k people are making rational judgements on the game. Everyone else who are bashing the game (or defending for that matter), maybe 2-3million people?, are doing nothing but spreading gossip and hearsay, they have no credibility whatsoever. Although it certainly helps to amplify the noise and let SE hear it, it doesn't help in having objective arguments, because I'm quite sure there really is a wave of FFXIV-bashing-bandwagonism going on.

I have to disagree. Games need substance. Take the game out of the game and you've got what? A TV stuck on game commercials.

I personally enjoy the minigame aspect a lot, and they need to add MOAR!!!! WHERE IZ MY TRIPLE TRIAD!?

if they added triple triad into XIV, i'd never level or craft >_> i'd wind up playing it...for hours.

...SE! Make Triple Triad, and make it give gil rewards for winning! FFXIV Gambling, goooooo. :P

on the AH topic - it's too early for an AH, give it a couple months. though i do say we need one, and as much as i hate to resort to this...use a system kinda like WoW's where you can type what you're searching for, and you can see who's selling it.

that alone would help combat RMT, most players will know the RMT characters, and avoid buying from them.

Purrrdeh much this! I'm so glad that SE added something other than click-and-wait to crafting, un-targettable gathering points, mini-games that are hot-and-cold-esque! I find the whole thing rather refreshing. If I wanted click and wait monotony, I'd go back to 11 and craft, but I really enjoy the feeling of feeling 'involved' more in what I do (granted, the suck-sess [a..haha x_x] rare of some synths needs to be tweaked! :p) Overall I'm really enjoying the soloability and the involvement that players have with even the smallest of tasks ingame.

I see a lot of people complaining about the game mechanics, but lag and market wards aside, there's very little that I'd want to tweak. Anima regeneration is one! (But that's somewhat covered now and also getting another tweak in a future update). Overall I'm really looking forward to the coming updates, additions and fixes that the dev. team are working on. The one thing that narks me though is that a lot of people complain and compare things to Final Fantasy 11. Would it not make more sense to play FFXI if you're looking for that kind of game? o_o My mind, it boggles!

I'm sorry for sleepy-rambling wall-of-text! Have a great weekend everyone :)

People compare it to 11 because they're supposed to have learned from their experience with it, yet things haven't been improved much, if at all.

my only gripe with the crafting is the ammount of time it takes to do a single synth and how many synths you have to do, to make a shirt >->

they should allow you an option to turn of animation, so when you grind out the earliest of materials, it goes by faster.

but even then, it's not a big thing, just my own personal feeling on it xD -crafts more-

anyone else realize how off the crafting is though? level 5 synth, requires level 15 materials from the same crafting class....seems backwards!

I'm far from being an SE fanboy(girl) but I'm remaining very hopeful that most of the issues will be resolved sooner rather than later ><

Atleast we only have to wait 2 months for inventory auto-sort instead of years @_@/

Yes! I find this is a small annoyance too hehe.

I feel like some recipes should be marked at a higher level too... I attempted making a Plumed Bronze Pickaxe earlier at 11 weaver, even with Master's Clothshop (No keyitem required) I couldn't do it for the life of me! D: So... maybe I'll try again in 5 levels lol :(

Something they should've had at launch, or even in beta :P It's like they didn't do anything until the very last moment.

You just contradicted yourself. Reviews do the exact same thing. People tell other people the game sucks, provide examples and people don't play the game because they're told it sucks. It's no different. It's only mindless drivel if people don't have the support to back their claims. As I've said already, there are plenty of reviews out there to support the general consensus. The game is in terrible shape and no one who isn't already openly involved in it should waste their money on it right now. Apparently SE themselves believe this as they just extended the free trial period another month.

Getting terrible reviews from major reviewers has a drastically higher impact on subscription numbers than any of our personal opinions.

Folks are quick to dismiss reviews they don't agree with because they don't understand how it effects their enjoyment of the game. It's a pretty myopic view and comes from failing to understand (or, out of denial, refusing to acknowledge) that games are businesses, who's only purpose is to make money by entertaining people.

If XIV doesn't get enough subscribers to cover its (substantial) development and maintenance costs, our opinions on the game won't matter because there won't be a game still running to have an opinion about.

I think such a scenario is unlikely in the short term, and hope it doesn't happen. But this "I like it, so *&#$ the millions of dissenting opinions" argument that keeps popping up in threads like this is incredibly naive, and leaves me wondering how such people operate functionally in the real world.

Either I'm really overtired or this sounds kinda harsh? I'm sure people are allowed to enjoy what they like, or am I getting totally whooshed here and missing the point? x_x

@Esaias I second what you say! haha

There's so much I love about this game, but I think on equal parts there's a fair bit that frustrates me too ><.

@ Drac - Amen dude ;~;

I hope you guys all have a great weekend and don't kill too many marmots D:

I feel the same way. I'm not Naive for liking a game, That's just a really arrogant thing to say. I'm sorry not all of us have your MMO experience under our belts Jae.

hey ffxiv has very short time to pick up or it wont pay off, they already wasted their big bang chance for their game to be a success which was the release, and for what? a broken game. Who wants to spend money on something that isn't even complete? $60 + lets say $12.00 ? or even more as i've heard with that crappy crysta system. I don't know $72.00 seems like a nice bag to me.

Sure it looks amazing! but the contents aren't. It's like that one person you go on a date with, they are amazing looking, perfect, you are so excited to go see them at dinner! but when they open their mouth it makes them pretty *** ugly real quick.

time to accept the game sucks, if you like it doesn't change the fact that it sucks. hey lot's of people like ***that sucks.

Play the game then give an opinion. Do you have any idea how many people said the same ***about XI when it came out? It was the same story. Yes XIV has its share of issues (mainly the UI) but it's a fun game in it's own respect. XI has always had a niche crowd and so will XIV. to compare an MMO that plays on both console and computer to an MMO that is solely designed for PC is stupid. Unfortunatly most of the complaints come from people that expect the same level of functionality as a PC only game. If you read most of the complaints they continuosly compare the gameplay to WoW but without saying "But it doesn't play like wow," however it does play close to XI w/o the auto attack aspect, adding an interactive crafting system, and the ease of solo play from day 1.
Saying XIV sucks w/o playing it is like hearing "Darki is a dumb ***," then repeating it over and over without ever having a conversation with her to know for yourself.

ah ok so i haven't played it ? just because i didn't buy it doesn't mean friends have and I've tried it at their place.

and i love how poeple can't take the truth from me and have no come back so resort to insulting my persona.

Even still the whole argument 'play it to make a critic or w/e' doesn't even work, doesn't change the truth from it, even lots of people who have played it still think isn't worth it. Take jaerik for example. It doesn't even need to be played to know it's INCOMPLETE.

and i don't remember XI getting such a horrible review, so you are comparing both launches very VERY blindly. Can't take the truth?

ps. Enternius shut the *** up before you get downrated like a *** we dont want another whining thread about it.

Problem is, that people always forgets that FFXI was already in Japan before for like a year?, just like Aion was "playable" because it was out on Korea for a while and even so, it was buggy as hell, getting stuck everywhere with the jump for example and it was pretty much a critical fearture for gliding. Not that all this is an excuse to what FFXIV has currently done of not including very basic feartures.
While I agree with the reviews, I think they gave it pretty little time I mean most reviews were already out in less than 19 days? they din't give it time, when in the other hand they gave Aion 4 months at least before bashing it and giving the abysmal scores. While this making SE worry about it and actually "working faster" on fixes, it's a two edge blade also making people avoid buying it, but I suppose if they manage to fix most problem before PS3 version is out (if it lasts that long) they can still draw people back since reviewers will most likely have to check it again.

yeah but aion is a failure right now lol servers are so empty. I played that thing, biggest waste of time ever.
And what more time did you expect to review ffxiv? weather it was 15 days or 2 months they are going to say the same, it's crap and incomplete. What a dissapointment for SE, their latest releases have been quite weak too.

They still have a big shot at ps3 release, will get everyones attention again. So they have two releases, first was a waste let's see how second goes =) thats why i said if they don't fix anything soon it will blow on their faces.

edit: i am looking forward to ps3 release as mine is collecting dust in my drawer.
