the reason this is such a high price weapon is due to how difficult it is to obtain, along with just how good it really is.
+5 acc and +18 att when under 100% tp is absolutely awesome for axe-burn parties, easily one of the "definitive" weapons for WAR.
I use mines Off-hand on WAR/NIN with Woodville's in Main-hand.
This is a drop from the ENMs "Like The Wind" and "Totentanz" (sp) To access either of these, you must do the mini-quest for the key item "Miasma Filter" for entering the boneyard gully. The miniquest includes climbing the Parradamo Tor (A very large annoyance).
The ENMs themselves are uncapped. Totentanz is for full alliances, and Like the Wind is designated for 3 members (although you CAN go with a full alliance to Like the Wind, the exp bonus is reduced) I can only assume that neither of these ENMs have a stellar drop rate on Maneater, and you must wait 4 earth days before you can do another ENM in the boneyard gully.
The Maneater itself is an absolute beast of a weapon. The latent probably will always be in effect when you are in a TP burn, AND it applies during WSes. If you dual wield axes, you will want this at some point. It's a very worthwhile investment.
@ Justinm Don't mislead people. The latent is in effect on WS as well as your Tp goes to 0 before you do a Weaponskill thus causing the latent to be active.
While the maximum(which you don't always hit) ws size does come out bigger DoT is better with maneater, and definitely better vs collibri unless you like feeding sushi to ol' Toucan Sam constantly.
ENM "Like the Wind" can also be done in duo with BST and RDM 75. I've done it a couple times with no problems. But i believe we are like 1/5 on Maneater when it was 600k.
Following one of the earlier comments, the Maneater is great in the mainhand if a Juggernaut is used in the offhand. When a Warrior's Berserk is active, the attack bonus from this and the Juggernaut will add an outstanding +60 Attack (18 + 30 = 48 x 1.25 = 60) Even though it does not have equal or higher damage as the Woodville's, any Warrior using a Maneater will have a very high damage output on their melee attacks and WS's.
If you're on Fenrir, do not pay this high price for this axe. The price was purposefully driven up from 120k to ~500k by a group of people in the span of a day, presumably RMT. If you wait it out, the price will drop. The same goes for Woodville's Axe.
