This weapon is a direct reference to the Brave Blade (or Sword, depending on version) from FFV, a powerful sword that weakened upon running from battles.

The opposite weapon was the Chicken Knife, a knife that became more powerful the more you ran from fights. This weapon also exists in FFXI.
