Counterstance

what is the proper use of this and what gear should u have to go with it and when?

Use Melee gaiters when initiating counterstance, you will receive a +10% bonus on Counterstance.

Gear: Acc helps counter procc, trying to raise acc will help counters to occour more often -> SH+1, O-hat, etc. However, on some mobs this will do relatively little (HLNM's) so i usually stick with my TP gear.

When: can't think of when NOT to use lol. Maybe you will not want to use it when you solo and your HP is in the red, or when you don't have healers. Otherwise "I" use it all the time. Most HLNM's (also salvage bosses) will hit so strong, that the def-down made by counterstance will not make situation noticabely worse for you.

honestly most time when i tryed useing it , it gets me killed. i use my eva stuff alot more

When you have shadows up and you are tanking the mob.

Best to use counterstance only when /nin. when /war or /dnc can get slaughtered too easy
I found it very effective against other mnk mobs, even in areas like dyna.
also having counter merits & counter+ gear can be useful while this active, but don't sacrifice haste gear for it cus you'll need that to keep shadows up fast.

I completely agree with this, when a Counter procs whilst you're recasting shadows it can really save you.

Also you can full-time Counterstance. Very useful indeed!

Don't Counterstance if your enemy has a TP move that you know can and will one-shot you. Otherwise, it's great for everything else.

Mortal Revolution will not one shot you.

I find that I use it mostly in Salvage. With melee gaiters and full counter merits it procs quite often. In salvage i tend to take it off if I have a RNG add. SSR is one time this occurs alot ; ; other than that it makes easy of duoing/soloing alot of mobs. GL on melee gaiters if u have yet to get them :P

purely situational
personally I tend to not use it against mobs that use multi-hit WS/high eva mobs
chances are it's going to do you more harm than good on those mobs if they're high lvl
mamool lurkers are a great example, high eva and vorpal blade
that's not to say you can't use it on them, but yea you get the idea

for salvage specifically, got a rdm with 5/5 phalanx merits? (which you should) full time that first floor, unless you're doing hammer in SSR
personally I dont use it on second floor SSR either, because fomor hit like a truck, i've seen MNKs get 1 shot with stance up on that floor due to MNK fomor doing WS on them with 0 shadows up

mortal rev can 1shot you too as stated above, if you're solo tanking that i'd personally stance rather than not, since 1 MNK = ***all TP moves
i've only ever been 1shot by that once, but yea you don't need to stance that boss if you're duo tanking
