Ok, so this isn't 100% ffxi related. But I suppose it is related to japan.

I'm taking intro. japanese at school and I cannot for the love of anything pronounce the "R"s. It sounds like a mix of R, D, and L to me. When I try to pronouce Ra ら, Ri り, Ru る, Re れ, Ro ろ, I either say it as a D or L. But cannot seem to get it right.

Does anyone have any tips for this?
I'm a native English speaker trying to learn Japanese.

Thank you very much, domo arigato. あい

Tap your tongue against your top front teeth or the roof of your mouth when you go to say it.

I don't think JP has the hard "R" pronounce "ARRG" or "ARRRE".

I personally think it's between the "R" and the "L" but it's more like a soft "R". It seems to come from the tip of your tongue rather than then middle. I think the closest would be similar to "DR" in "Dragon" but a lot faster and softer.

The opposite is probably the French "R" which comes from the throat.
