2015 FFXI's Live Event Summary/Discussion
Because it will no doubt be buried in the big discussion post, I am putting the link to the official translated summary here for quicker and easier access.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/46414-Conference-Digest?p=543880#post543880 In others words, seems like the ending is closer.
Quote: "we aim for it serve as the ultimate compilation of all we have accomplished to date" I hope they live up to this statement. bahh, other thread ended, as i was posting this...

Nyruul said: » Off topic, when have you ever seen a Goobue eat a mandy!!? ![]() 2-3 years is not really close, but they are letting us know that if they are not getting back/recruit new playerbase they will end the game pretty much, since when ppl are done with content they will go to play something else. Even grind dies if new stuff doesn't come out periodically.
Therefore making us leave in orderly fashion with our memories before they shutdown. In 2-3 years that is... So, no new jobs, no male mithras, not even a mention of server merges. Just MOBILE OR BUST.
I'll return to play in November, do all the new stuff and the final scenario. Tie up my ends, then bid my absolute final farewell to XI. SE gave me a good way to do it, I think.
If they adjust subscription policies along with cutting major content support in November, maybe will play on and off just for nostalgia's sake... but really, the nostalgia will all be in these final three mission packs, the gameplay that I grew my MMO career, and indeed most of my adolescent years, playing is gone. Old friends, NPCs, stories... all coming together for one last hurrah. Couldn't have asked to see more in the embers. Got something in my eye... so I'll go sit in that corner for a while... How sad is it though, we'll never get to see the true far east (Where Tenzen comes from) and we'll never get to see the Mithra homeland.
I must say I am excited! This was a worth while announcement! Good job SE! Sad that my first and last MMO will be gone sooner rather than later, but its been a good ride since 2004 and I have no complaints.
Maybe it is time. I wont pick another mmo up I don't even like FFXIV. Here's how I see it going:
Matsui: We would like for all players to be able to complete the final content so we are setting the difficulty rather low. We will only require players to have an item level of 109 to be able to win. Shout: Final Mission. Veteran player. Augmented Alluvion Skirmish gear and 119 RME only... http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/vanaproj/vanaproj.html
Quote: Adventurers of Vana’diel, I have an announcement to make. In a short time we will be commencing a new series of content known as “The Vana’diel Project,” which aims to expand the scope of Vana’diel as we head into the future. As part of this tremendous initiative, we have announced new scenario content known as “Rhapsodies of Vana’diel.” This scenario will bring fresh story content and weave together the tales we have told across thirteen years of Vana’diel. Both the development and operations teams are working harder than ever before to deliver this package to you. We have also announced FINAL FANTASY GRANDMASTERS, a new creation set in Vana’diel, and a native app project based on the MMM (Massive Multiplayer Mobile) concept. Keep your eye on these projects as they revolutionize the way players experience FINAL FANTASY XI. Illustration:Tetsuya Nomura FINAL FANTASY XI’s major version updates will conclude with the November 2015 iteration, when Rhapsodies of Vana’diel is scheduled to reach its thrilling climax. We will, however, continue implementing ordinary version updates that focus on balance adjustments and bug fixes. Additionally, service for the PlayStation® 2 and Xbox 360® versions will end on or around March 2016, and we will focus our efforts on the Windows® version. Feedback posted on the forums and obtained through other avenues will inform quality of life improvements and balance adjustments, so do not hesitate to tell us your thoughts and opinions. Take the opportunity to see, hear, and feel Vana’diel as it exists today—a Vana’diel created not just by the developers, but by each and every one of you. We eagerly await you in the land of Mithra and moogles. March 19, 2015 Akihiko Matsui, Producer, FINAL FANTASY XI Cool, Mime confirmed.

I'll be honest, I teared up a bit :( Quote: a native app project based on the MMM (Massive Multiplayer Mobile) concept. *chuckle* We've speculated about the end of this game for a while but it seems sad that it seems set in stone now, if I read that correctly, after Rhapsodies of Vana’diel, they are stopping major version updates which I take to mean no new content?
Especially as they follow up by saying the minor version updates will only address bugs and balance issues. Yep November is it.
So pc will continue? This is great news! Xbox players were always the worst imo
I don't understand why they don't give us 3 more expansions, even if they would be smaller than SoA, to introduce far north, east and south and keep milking veteran players. I thought they were still earning a good sum of money from current subs.
They could have decreased the fees, add a vanity shop to the account page, maybe give a free month (or at least two weeks) with free level ups and a bunch of copper vouchers or things like that for any potential returners so they could jump right into action. Those people would be happy to know if SE announced they would reveal the whole Vana'diel before putting the game in intensive care. I was expecting to be dissapointed, but this is just too much to take... I don't know how to feel aobut this game anymore... One part of me says I feel betrayed as a loyal customer, other part says all good things has to end. They scrapped the UI rehaul for Windows version, but now they have to work on a completely new UI for mobile platforms. Why should we care for a mobile phone version anyway? Expensive cellular data fees, shitty connections, possibly being forced into microtransactions to get past stupid limiations... I don't want any of that crap. At least make those addons free, cut the fees a bit and announce a free game time+rewards event so maybe they could get some people to return and we could pass the final days of actual content with lots of active players and not afk bazaars, standing all day in adoulin or jeuno... I will most likely stay for another year or two, maybe unsub until November. Just wait until May to see that they will sell the addons from the full price of 10$ each. These people never learn. Maybe they should just leave this business and start selling lemonade on the streets. The add ons are free through content updates.
I don't get it exactly...
whats the point of: "2. FINAL FANTASY GRANDMASTERS: A New Online RPG for Smartphones Set in the World of Vana'diel" If we're getting.. "3. A Native App Project Providing A Full-Fledged FINAL FANTASY XI Experience on the Mobile Platform" Isn't that the same thing? what is going on here or the thinking in doing this.... I understand the Ap project i get it.. allowing people to join in on what is going on now. but then to create a clone copy of ffxi for smartphones exclusively... would be very interesting to see how those play out..... I can't imagine the game dying in 2-3 years if basically two versions of ffxi can now be chosen from your smartphone.. hell it's gonna take them a year just to get this ***rolling i'd bet. and then people are gonna wanna play FINAL FANTASY GRANDMASTERS which will be the clone copy of this game which seems pretty dope if you ask me iono. and then feed in mobile ability to this one ontop of that seems like people will feel like they are able to game conveniently no? even if all they want to do is 'town' stuff untill they have more freetime later, the whole phone application comeing out for XI seems like enough to keep enough people playing the game and extend it into this snowball of 5+ UN-forseeable. We will now in effect have a choice between: XIV, XI, GRANDMASTERS (clone copy of XI for smartphones;keep in mind this isn't coping XIV's format for this new MMO for smartphones, but XI.. isn't this telling of something, wouldn't you say? thoughts?) And then the new XI Ap project (if someone new gets a hold of this version of the game. starts playing, and is legitimately intrigued in this type of gaming. they may keep playing or try grandmasters or XIV and or vice-versa but the upside to XI is that the content for grandmasters and XIV will be lacking comparatively to XI for the next 2-3 years. no matter what, XI will still have more content to do. so if someone becomes bored with all that there is to do in grandmasters or XIV, guess what. they are now on XI. iono just some thoughts At the end of the day for the next 2-3 years XI will have high caliber collusion of 22 jobs that have been grinding adjustment after adjustment of refinement; which makes grandmasters and XIV seem 'smaller' depth wise, in the sense of context, and how imaginations may be intrigued by the 'high-end, epeen, 4stacked unique buffers, context of gameplay with fully throttled assortment of triple attacking power weapons etc. etc.' type will be drawn towards XI, if grandmasters and XIV are still slow to produce content. why make two separate games about XI for smartphones but not XIV. isn't that enough to give XI much more life then a predicted 3 years? it'l take 2 years to full refine what they even say they want to do, and then to actually enjoy the 'end' isn't gonna just be 1 year I personally never cared as a player all this time that there be a 'roadmap', or a 'plan' I've realized the game is in uncharted territory at this point and i'm just in for the ride 100% down to game on XI no matter what happens. If all they want to do is see if they can get fresh people interested in a game and not care about creating content unless that happens, i'm kinda ok and content with that approach tbh. SE would always do these quirky outreaches in japan with XI at times to reach out to new young people. remember when they announced there little videos they were making for new people. they've always been focused on 'return to vana'diel campaigns', and making there newest readers digest story, and decorating towns for events, for moogles to look cute and spin i don't know. dressing up the 3 starter towns, ffxi is a cute anime game, they've tried to let that be the focus of the game's appeal by being well rounded with little quirk things like a new little gadget pen to buy for a ingame costume item or something weird. and the 2000 items who knew about to decorate your moghouse. just all the random side ***that noone really cared about was wasted effort the company could have used for really investigating how to make the game be a mega star that WOW and FFXI have unprecedentedly become. it's just upper management mentality of just get someone to do things to do things i suppose.. Their trying the smartphone thing now, just gotta go with it XI isnt dying: because for fun: The List: The Five Longest Running MMOs http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/feature/4117/page/1. the comments are pretty funny I'm sad to see what has been a part of my life for over a decade come to it's stage of riding off into the sunset. Especially since there is so much underlying story, lore, geography, etc. that was never elaborated on or told at all.
This was especially made evidant in the beta promotional video Snprphnx posted. You can see that there was supposed to be more to the monument and waterfall in Gustaberg for example. But sadly they became little more than uncontextualized low-level quests. Unless SE makes this one last hurrah emphesize on how beautiful and elaborate the world of Vana'diel is, and covers all the holes they passed over these years, this game will not end on good terms in my book. Hopefully even after FFXI comes to a close, the community and fans will continue to shine some light on the life and love in our home away from home. I enjoyed FF14 but there is one problem. If you play a lot like I do you run out of things to do in that game quick. I quit the game 3 months after release having done EVERYTHING you can do in the game. Bahamut coil , crafting to max lvl, lvled the jobs I wanted. I came back 2 months ago to this day and caught back up to everyone in 4 weeks!!! Then I had nothing to do but try to clear coil turn 12/13- which was not enough to make me want to keep playing.
FF14 is going to need a lot more to make it the FF11 void. Till then I will reactivate World of Warcraft. I will laugh so hard if this is some elaborate April Fools joke.
