Also, why don't they just develop the patch / fix on Atomos (the test server) then just apply it to all the servers? Oh wait, that would be smart.

I'm sure they did, but they still have to shut the servers down to apply the patch, and it takes time to shut everything down and reboot everything.

To add onto that, it takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours just to reset everything. The patches themselves only take a few minutes.

Most computers use BIOS to start up. This is actually software that's about 40 years old. There IS new stuff out there. Its called UEFI. This would start your computer in seconds.

Of course a game server takes longer than a simple desktop/notebook to boot up.
And yes they probably still use the orginal servers and they have been up and running for 10 years. Of those they still kept since alot of servers been shut down over the years.
