Watch out for the forests though. It's said that there are wild blue gorillas roaming around.

I hear they have spears, too. A tool-making race. /nod

It was embarrasingly awkward. I thought Lulu was a dried up old peep and wakka hadn't yet figured out what to do with his peepee.

I felt the same, though it kinda seemed like Lulu waiting for him to grow up... or something. Still, she was with his brother. >.<;

I never got why they took Wakka, who was kind of a big-hearted but tough-talking, street-wise hard-head in the JP version of the game, and reinterpret him as a laid-back Jamaican in the EN version. Probably the same reason they decided to make Tidus a whiny little *** with daddy issues.

That game took the weirdest liberties with character re-interpretations as part of translation ever.

I liked Tidus -_-

Probably because I see a lot of him in me. I found he grew the most of any main FF character.

Can they even do such a thing? :S

Isn't there a code for interpretations when translating?

I loved how, up until either KH1 or Dissidia came out..I can't remember which pronounced it first, half of the people said "Ty-dus" and half said "Tee-dus"...and those two groups would often argue.

In Japanese it was "Tee-da." Unfortunately in English, names that end in "A" tend to be feminine, so they pulled another random re-interpretation and named him "Tidus."

But that's where people are getting "Tee-dus" from.

Tidus was annoying, but it was still cute how he liked Yuna. When he hugged her at the end I was like, aawwwwwwwww /cry. T_T

Edit: They say it in KH too. :\

Ryukku became "Rikku" in the EN version because English-speakers are completely incapable of pronouncing a Japanese "Ry." (It's one sound, not two.)

It's like an R and D at the same time, in pronunciation, isn't it?

It's more accurately a "rolled" R (like in Spanish or Italian) but where the tongue only "rolls" off the top of your mouth once. The "Y" is then layered over that.

English speakers try to use an English "R," which doesn't exist in Japanese to begin with. Then they to force a vowel sound between the R and the Y, ("Rai-yuu" or "Ree-yuu"), which tend to be entirely different words in Japanese. (I.e. not identifiable as a simple mispronunciation.)

Link to wav of correct pronunciation.

Due to an unfortunate trick of spelling, I can't use my legal given EN name (Dorian) in Japan, and due to nobody being able to pronounce it, I can't use my legal given JP name (Ryuji) in the US.

Depends on how much liberty you grant your voice actors. They granted... a lot... to the EN voice actors in FFX. To the point there were some major reinterpretations.
