WASHINGTON - There should be no such thing as too poor to buy pot if you live in D.C., at least if the marijuana is for a medical condition.

That's part of the conclusion of a new law enacted in the nation's capital earlier this year. The medical marijuana law allows people to legally obtain the drug for medical reasons. But the law also includes a provision different from the 14 other states with medical marijuana laws, requiring the drug to be provided at a discount to poor residents. Who will get the reduced-price marijuana and how much it will cost, however, is still being worked out.

City officials say they plan to publish their first draft of regulations implementing the law on Friday. Patients aren't expected to be able to purchase medical marijuana in the city until 2011.

It's not legal, it's kind of legal.

Which ever not that I smoke or do drugs..... mainly for medical purposes. But if you think about it alcohol is no different, but it is not the same thing. I hardly drink also, only when I go out with family once in a blue moon. it is just one of those things, but smoking weed is not the same thing.

They just need to legalize it sell it on every corner and tax the ***out of ***it..if ppl are smoking it anyway why not sell it to everyone legally and make a killing off it?

It would be handy if they legalized it so shops could sell it. I wouldn't have to go far to get it then.

Imo, legalizing marijuana is good for the economy.

FYI

Cultivation is illegal in Canada unless for medical use; possession of a small amount is generally handled by most authorities as if it were decriminalized.

Any growing or selling of the substance outside of controlled medicinal sources is still illegal and possession of enough cannabis does imply intent to traffic and will still result in an arrest.

The rules here are under debate and the letter of the law has not changed to reflect this. Polls show Canadians support legalization and I expect it to come sooner than later.
