Fixing the MW 3-8 Cashgrab
Not to mention the timed gatekeeping still in place to artificially force slow progression on content that's been out for a while now, such as Coalitions, Omen, Dynamis D, and Odyssey.

I think this is what most MMOs do don't they? I know FFXIV does this, and FFXI always has too if memory serves. Old dynamis for example had a huge lock out time. This thread about a topic is only at 5 pages and another thread about the exact same topic is at 16 pages. C'mon people. More hustle. Keep bumping instead of letting one die or becoming locked!
SE should implement a 50 cent transaction every time you used a Home Point. You gotta pre-load your characters with an official POL gaming card, and it deducts every time. Chocobos will cost money too, so start ***’ walking.
AH tax fee? Money. Signet, Ionis, whatnot? Money. Need to change jobs more than 3 times in a day? You bet, that’s gonna be 25 cents. *** ya let’s see this ***. Offline

And a $5 per month additional fee to unlock style locking.
Each equipment slot unlocks with $0.50 extra. Each time you zone, another $0.50 Time to spice this ***up Offline

I think this is what most MMOs do don't they? I know FFXIV does this, and FFXI always has too if memory serves. Old dynamis for example had a huge lock out time. Kind of. Most other MMOs have what you could call a "seasonal" model now, where once content is out for X amount of time, new content comes out that wholly replaces it and you can get what the old content was giving for basically free. That, or other MMOs have gone fully horizontal without power increases/changes between tiers of content with all rewards being cosmetic. I'm not making this about XIV (I've noticed XI players get touchy about the game if you talk about it too much), but additionally, XIV is designed such that you can complete any content currently out with stuff you can easily acquire day 0. Gear is basically cosmetic and a difficulty slider. Completely different games with different goals going on. XI's in a position where it's both highly vertical (a WAR in Homestead gear cannot out-skill a WAR in Sakpata and JSE +3 with a Chango) and basically assumes that you have the stuff from Content -1 to do Content. They release the pressure valve a bit here and there, namely with DI giving out items that used to be Geas Fete exclusive and how you can fully upgrade one and a half Ambu sets to +2 from +0 a month now instead of just one piece from +1 to +2, but the broad idea is there. Very curious to see what the 20th anniversary content is, if anything, and what baseline of power it will expect players to have, especially with Master Levels in the mix now. RadialArcana said: » Draylo said: » Sabishii said: » They run this game like a Indie title (small budget to keep things running, enough to develop new content). I've explained this game to other friends who've never played 11 before, and they believe (without trying) this game is boring, and dead. In comparision, WoW, Everquest each get expansions, Runescape 3 is actively developed, and old school Runescape is still a thing. We get updates each month, but they're very small compared to other games. Lol it's almost impossible to get people to try this game, not until it has some HD graphics I guess. It's sad the amount of people who outright refuse to try or even take pride in refusing to. Stumbled across this and just eye rolled. https://m.twitch.tv/clip/CleverInexpensiveSquirrelJonCarnage-1HEXHnx1JcjFyUJK He didn't even say anything bad, he just doesn't wanna play it. That's fine, he is a fair weather streamer and 11 isn't going to appeal to him. Square Enix asked Ninja to play 14 a few times publicly and he has refused every time, same thing in reverse. The kind of people that watch streams, aren't this games target audience. I just found it funny he wanted to experience every numbered FF game but made it a point to skip 11 and say so. Offline

I'm curious too. I think it's safe to say it'll be related to Empy +3, and I'm sure it'll be time gated just like all the other content has been. I'm just hoping for a 20 hour lock out instead of 60 hours. If I had to guess, I'd say it's either going to be an Abyssea 2.0 type deal (which is fine with me, I liked the battle content side of Abyssea), or maybe a voidwatch 2.0 type deal. Power creep has been getting a little ridiculous lately anyways. We need some new content that can kick the ***out of the veteran players too. Either way, it's pretty exciting and not too far down the road. I sort of assumed that part of the reason (with the other reasons of course being current inventory woes and a new source of revenue) they put out 4 new wardrobes instead of just 2 is they're expecting a somewhat large influx of new equipment coming soon, possibly tied to the rumored chemist job and whatever content comes out with Empy +2/+3? Seriously there is a huge list of reasons why someone wouldn't want to play this game.
Could go on but I think you get the idea. This game isn't setup to really let new people in and have a good experience. The story isn't bad by any means, just your opinion. I'm glad i got to experience this game the way I did. The rest is pretty true, the experience is bad because the company itself doesn't care to make that experience any easier, and here we see the results where people wanna try every single FF game except this one. If only they cared enough like they did for 14, where they adjusted the story there for the beginning and try to make all processes easier for new players.

I don't think SE has done enough monetizing of in-game 'things' that do not give a player advantage. They could have sold optional items from the outset to generate cash.
Every company has to make money, and SE is no different. They need the money to invest in things like: - new staff - server space - research and development - proper maintenance of the existing game/s Plus a host of other things. The wardrobes are optional lol, so the idea of being upset about an optional service is the equivalent of ranting at the sky. Absolute waste of energy. There's a whole generation of people that can't grasp even basic economics and believe that things should be free. Nothing can be free in this world; there's always a cost somewhere along the line. The only people that work for free are slaves. Offline

Of course they are, they just aren't the investments you want them to make. For example, FFXI income probably goes to FFXIV, where it makes them a metric *** load of money. It isn't what you want, but it's just good business for SE.
Well its creating resentment and not giving much confidence to their supporters. All of their money isn't poured into 14 though, I can't imagine they remastered crystal chronicles, chocobo racing and some other games because they thought it would be massive profit. A lot of times they have artistic integrity and like to take care of their products. They even removed the majority of the remaster games that a lot of people hated the art work on. They could have simply left them there and not redone them again for the 50th time, but they actually removed them from the stores.
I like to hope they have something nice planned for this game in that announcement, it deserves it. Another reason I see this service as something that can help this game. It really sad seeing people like Meliorah bash the hell out of this old game (even tho they constantly come back and play this "horrible" game and post on its forums) The community and players have become so jaded because of SE, they are tarnishing their own brands by not putting the effort in that it deserves. I think this game has one of the best stories in FF and such a rich amount of characters that were done beautifully, It's still my favorite game and its a shame new players won't get to experience it like I did. If you can show me how SE reinvest the money, or otherwise don't, then I can discuss this, otherwise it's pointless as you have no data to build an argument on. First thing would be how much it costs SE to run FFXI month-to-month. That would be the very least.

Angryturnip said: » If you can show me how SE reinvest the money The only reason everything added since 2015 exists is becasue they paid people to make it, that's investment. A whole new mission line with fights, new music, new cut-scenes, all of Odyssey, whatever is being worked on for the 20th, master levels, new battle camps. None of this should exist given the statement previously, they decided to fund more. Offline

Well, this explains something at least. It’s more evidence than the pessimistic, half-glass-full side are able to provide to support claims that SE are on a cash grab.
I’d love to know which mastermind at SE headquarters was tapping their fingers on their table when they came up with this stroke of genius. “Okay boys, we have a remaster of Final Fantasy VI we can release in HD for the switch, or we have a bunch of Mog wardrobes we can sell for $2.00 apiece to a small group of MMO nerds. What’ll be!?” Clearly, this isn’t a cash grab. That’s the most ridiculous mislabeling of what’s occurring here. They’re clearly trying to generate a revenue of income to keep the game going OR perhaps develop something new for it. Half the devs working on this game probably work all day on it as they have to make sure each monthly update is ready to roll out. They are doing a grand job of it from my perspective and if I have to pay a few $$€€££ for some wardrobes, I’ll happily do it without demanding to see where my $4.00 is being invested. Edit: replying to RadicalArcana. Just haven’t worked out how to do it properly yet :D Angryturnip said: » Well, this explains something at least. Sadly, we live in a world where a good swath of people feel as though they're owed something simply for being them, and then get angry when they don't get what they feel they're entitled to. This entire thread is proof of that. Angryturnip said: » Well, this explains something at least. Edit: replying to RadicalArcana. Just haven’t worked out how to do it properly yet :D Like I'm surprised the game is still running, it was developed for the PS2 and SE has since had to reverse engineer the dev kits, without Sony's help, to keep making stuff. Heck the fact that all the math use's powers of 2 for multiplication / division is a huge indicator the server code is written in a very old language. That's like super old school optimization right there. The expertise they have to keep around to maintain that has gotta be nuts. Maybe it's a cashgrab. . . maybe the money will go towards XIV. I don't really know.
What I do know is Matsui is passionate about this game. He is squeezing a new story, all the gear/Odyssey updates, new inventory, some new Ambus, and soon new endgame content out of a "maintenance mode" budget. And if XI suddenly sees a large bump in revenue, Matsui will have a basis to ask for a larger budget. For those complaining that this game doesn't give us enough content. . . it's because the game doesn't have enough budget. And the only chance this game has at a larger budget is be turning out larger revenue. Offline

Saying they get help from the other units doesn't mean they are doing it for free, it means they are allowed to work on another project when normally thy are under contractual agreements to not work on "competing" projects.
Even XIV is forced to outsource lots of work, as does ff16. Did we all forget the days when the only inventory was your “inventory”? No mog satchel, sack, case, let alone wardrobes. Changing jobs required absurd effort because this was well before any windower addons could do it all for you. Nothing is free in life.
