How would you feel if they went and deleted the holocaust museum? or deleted all of the civil rights movement? you cant erase these things or people will repeat them. wait, what am i talking about, of course you'd want the holocaust museum deleted so you can go pursuing your eugenics project. They’re too dumb to realize that the pendulum always swings. Push it too far and it’s going to swing back with a vengeance. It's a life size action figure. Who cares.
It's not like anyone learns anything anyway. Just run around parroting "everyone is the enemy" "capitalism is great everything else is communism" Leviathan.Draugo

I don't know, people are walking contradictions, every thing we do to control ourselves ends up turning into even greater acts of depravity. Sad part of all of this, we are the only species on the planet that wants to embrace this sense of divine class segregation, but then violate ourselves in revolt of it.
We are a very hot mess. Cerberus.Hideka said: » Asura.Eiryl said: » Destroy all the statues. From the progressive point of view, history is no different then any other idea and can be "wrong" and "corrected". Every Communist / socialist nation in the world was notorious for rewriting history. Whenever Government owns the means by which history is recorded and reviewed then it will change that history to further it's own goals. Taking down some statues doesn't in any way delete, alter, or cause us to forget history. The fearmongering is funny though.

I don't know what state you live in or what statues you have, but I know you've never once walked by one and been like oh yeah, thanks "man of this statue for doing what you did that time" You wouldn't even notice if it was gone unless someone told you they tore it down. Thanks for the false assumption, but you’re also wrong. Especially when visiting new places on road trips or whatever, half the reason I know that anything interesting happened there is due to statues and monuments pointing it out. But I can't remember when or where I was. Yet I've read a couple of different biographies on him, as well as taken history classes on the Civil War. I wonder which of these things provides more information? Bahamut.Ravael said: » Thanks for the false assumption, but you’re also wrong. Heck, why do tourists ever even bother visiting places like Gettysburg when they can just Wiki it? Git gud. "wanting to see it" and caring about it, caring about what it represents, caring about why it's there are completely different.
Sure statues are photo ops, all the more reason to tear them down. Deny deny deny. Revise revise revise. Forget forget forget. Swallow that blue pill boys. You'll make some excellent brown shirts.
I'd like to know why we built statues of Confederate generals/people in the first place. They were traitors! They quite literally took up arms against the United States.
And like, why did Kentucky have a statue of Jefferson Davis in the state house? FOR STARTERS, THEY WERE A NORTHERN STATE. And if the answer is "Oh, he was from there", I guess if I learned the leader of a band of traitors was from MY neck of the woods, building a statue of him wouldn't exactly be my top priority, and I sure as hell wouldn't put said statue in the state house. Where I wonder, did they learn about it's existence? It wasn't from a statue. There are several dozen monuments and statues at Gettysburg. Do you think tourists are intimately familiar with every person and event being commemorated before they go? Landmarks have a purpose, and permanent structures help ensure things aren’t forgotten. I’m sorry if you can’t understand something son simple that has been a staple of education in history for millennia. And yes, people rewrite history all the *** time. Can't even write it in stone w/o asshats tearing it down, to make way for a softer history less reasons to question authority than if history proves them right.
You aren't anymore special than any other asshat that thinks wiki and YouTube are the truth. There is a reason people build "monuments." Murica isn't the only ones who do it. And someone gave a very specific example of dipshits tearing down monuments that were completely opposite of what they thought they were, but it's cute that you can turn a blind eye to that. It's great that you have taken the time to learn some history, it's a shame you skipped major chunks of it, especially having to do with many events in history that were lost in time that we had to rediscover, these little lessons and parables were wiped away from history in the past but numbskulls like yourself who were to scared to face the past in order to overcome it. But hey, your one individual experience, contradicting the entire history of what our species does all the time, is totally the way things go down, because you said so. Bury your head in the sand some more. Drama Torama said: » I'd like to know why we built statues of Confederate generals/people in the first place. They were traitors! They’re tearing down statues and monuments to Founding Fathers now. We’re beyond Confederates and traitors. Leviathan.Draugo

Biggest *** lesson wiped away from history of all time. We are all human beings, and we are all the same goddamn, pun intended, creatures.
Bahamut.Ravael said: » They’re tearing down statues and monuments to Founding Fathers now. We’re beyond Confederates and traitors. It wouldn't have gotten to that point if they hadn't started with the Confederate statues, though, so the question is still relevant. Like, no one was feenin' to give US Grant a toppling until they were already in a frenzy from toppling some traitors. (Grant's record on Native Americans was pretty awful, which seems to be the argument for going after him). Cerberus.Hideka

Can you be a traitor to yourself? it sounds like a dumb question, but its not. These people were americans, who said no to part of the american system. had they gone to another country to sell us out, then yes they would be traitors. but they didnt; they fought a war for what they believed in. its called the war of northern aggression for a reason - the north absolutely did instigate that war, and is the force that marched on the south - not vice versa. I went over this briefly in my other post- but the war did not occur because slavery - slavery was a footnote in the war. Slavery was a controversial component of policy absolutely, but the notion that the north fought the war to free the slaves is a myth perpetuated ex post facto. the war occurred because the south was effectively removed from democracy. To put it into modern terms, it would be as if trump signed and enforced an executive order that doubled votes from red states, and halved votes from blue states. this is what was done to the democrats in the south during the civil war. it's why even when every single democratic slave state voted for their candidate, they still HANDILY lost to abraham lincoln. Now using that trump example - Would you consider yourself a traitor if you said "*** this ***i'm out" and you and your buddies got together and said "This is ours, we want nothing to do with you"? should i consider you a traitor if you did that? The reason we have statues of these people, is to honor them, that even though people were on different sides of the war, they were still american, and still deserving of recognition for their bravery. This kind of knowledge didn't come from a statue in the middle of nowhere. Its contained in these things we like to call books. Lee is still considered to be one of the greatest american tacticians in the history of warfare.... like for serious - he lost four of fifteen battles- each of the four battles he was GROSSLY outnumbered - like the battle of appomatox where he surrendered- they were outnumbered 2:1. every single other battle - the other eleven, he fought at a numerical disadvantage, and won or stalemated the union. |
