There was just as much hate and anxiety when Obama was elected (if you pay attention to the media that is, since we have been electing/nominating nothing but hateful racist fearmongers for the past 16 years now), but yet, there were no protests on the streets when Obama was elected.

Now, since we have Trump, there's nothing but protests riots in the streets before he even started his new job.

So, my question is: If we are what we were portrayed by the left and by the media to be, why was there no record of any riots when Obama was elected, or even re-elected?

It's not a good idea on a functional level, it's a good idea on an "olive branch" level. Besides, Sanders probably wouldn't take it anyway. It's the act of offering it that would make the point.
